Description

J. REGAN.
WARP STOP MOTION FRAME.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 15, 1920. 1,375,729. Patented Apr. 26,1921.
UNITED STATES NT OFFICE.
JOHN REGAN, OF NEW BEDFORD, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIG-NOR TO CROMPTON &
KNOWLES LOOM WORKS, OF WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS, A CORPORA- TION OF MASSACHUSETTS.
WARP-STOlP-MOTION FBAJVIE.
Patented Apr. 26, 1921.
Application filed April 15, 1920. Serial No. 374,026.
T 0 all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, JOHN REGAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Bedford,in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful arpStop-Motion Frame, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a frame construction particularly applicable to a warp stop motion of the type shown in my prior Patent No. 1.26:3,112, of May 7, 1918, but not necessarily limited to this type of stop motion.
It is the object of my invention to improve the construction, simplify the manufacture, and reduce the cost of a stop mo tion frame, and at the same time to provide a more accurate and satisfactory product.
My invention further relates to arrangements and combination of parts hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
A preferred form of my invention is shown in the drawings in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of one end frame of a warp stop motion;
Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view along the line 22 in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a detail side elevation of a portion of an end plate;
Fig. 4 is a partial front elevation of certain parts shown in'Fig. 1, and
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of one. of the detachable supports.
Referring to the drawings, I have shown an end plate 10 adjustably mounted upon a rod 11 adapted to be secured to a loom side (not shown). The plate 10 supports the operating mechanism of the stop motion, which forms no part of my present invention, and which is fully described in my prior patent. It will be understood that a similar end plate is provided at the opposite side of the loom.
An essential feature of my stop motion as shown in said patent is the use of a plurality of separator bars 12, which are disposed on each side of each bank of drop wires. Each end of each bar 12 is received taken 'in a notch 13 in a detachable support or bracket 14 mounted on one of the end plates .10. Each plate 10 is provided at its lower end with projections 10 and each support 14% is provided with hooks or depending lugs 16 adapted to rest upon the projections 10 and to engage the rear faces thereof. This construction possesses important advantages of manufacture, as it is possible to mill or otherwise machine the notches 13 so that the bars 12 may be accurately spaced and positioned.
Furthermore, the size and spacing of the bars 12 may vary considerably for different goods and different types and widths of drop wires, and such variation may be easily taken care of by providing different brackets or supports 14. This saves the cost of providing a series of difl'erentcomplete end frames. All parts are of simple construction and require a minimum amount of hand labor in fitting and assembling the same.
Having thus described my invention and the advantages thereof, it will be apparent that changes and modifications can be .made therein by those skilled in the art,
within the spirit and scope thereof as set forth in the claims, and I do not wish to be. otherwise limited to the details'herein disclosed, but what I claim is 1. A warp stop motion frame comprising fixed end plates, a plurality of drop wire separator bars and supports for said bars, said end plates and said supports having coopcrating engaging portions by which said supports may be detachably mounted on said frames.
2. A warp stop motion frame, comprising fixed end plates, a plurality of separator bars, and supports for said bars, said end plates having projections thereon, and said supports having portions effective to engage said projections and to detachably secure said support thereto.
In testimony whereof I- have hereunto affixcd my signature.
JOHN REGAN.
