While my invention is not limited to any particular type of firearm, as it is readily adapted to a firearm that is discharged while supported against the shoulder of a erson, such a firearm is shown in the drawmgs herein for the purpose of illustrating the invention.

In the accompanying drawings the numeral 10 denotes the stock of the wooden frame part of a firearm embodying my 111- are recessed to receive the metallic parts comprising the frame of the gun, which, in the present instance, include a receiver 12 and a trigger plate 13 that is secured to the receiver as by means of screws 14, said receiver having a barrel 15 secured thereto in any suitable manner.

A magazine 16 comprising a part of the frame extends upwardly through the wooden frame and its chamber registers with an opening 17 through the bottom of the receiver, and said chamber and opening hre in vertical alinement with a discharge opening 18 in the top of the receiver. A breech bolt 19 is located in the receiver and it may be actuated in any suitable manner and the firing mechanism may be of any desired construction, a detailed description of such parts being, therefore, omitted, said mechanism, however, including a trigger 20 of any desired form and construction. The magazine 16 is formed integral with the trigger plate 13, projecting from the upper side thereof, and the bottom 21 of the magazine is held in place by a lip 22 on its front edge engaging a groove 23 in the trigger plate, a magazine locking bolt 24: retaining the parts thus engaged. This looking bolt is movably located in a well 25 in the rear wall of the magazine and in the bottom 21, a pin 26 permitting limited movement of the bolt within the well. A locking bolt operating prong 27 is formed on the end of the bolt and projects beyond a stop shoulder 28 formed at the mouth of the well 25, the length of this prong being uch that when an instrument is placed against it to push it inward, and in such movement the end ofthe instrument strikes the stop shoulder 28, the end of the main part of the bolt will have been moved inward beyond the upper surface of the bottom 21, and far enough to enable sliding movement of said bottom sufficiently to disengage the lip 22 from its groove. The bolt 24 is retained in its locking position as by a spring 29 which also presses against an ejector 30 in the opposite end of the well 25. This ejector has a flattened portion 31 adapted to pass into a slot 32 in the forward end of the breech bolt and back of a cartridge shell to eject the latter as the breech bolt moves backwardly.

In the preferred form of construction a recess 33 is formed in the bottom 21, extendcelver shall not ing preferably partially through it, a hole extending from the bottom of the recess to the opposite side of the bottom of the magazine, and through which hole the lower end of the bolt 24 projects, this hole, in fact, comprising. a part of the well 25. This recess is larger in diameter than said hole and also the locking bolt so that there is a space 34 between the wall of the recess and the prong 27, the bottom of the recess in the con struction shown comprising the shoulder 28. The invention, however, is not limited to a structure in which the recess extends only partially through the bottom. This enables an instrument slightly larger in diameter than the width of the space 34 to be inserted in the recess and pressed against the prong 27 to move the locking bolt inward to.release the bottom 21 and without interfering with "its sliding movement the groove 23. In order to rigidly connect the receiver and magazine the latter has a part extending into the receiver and in order that the rebe weakened by undue cuttingaway the rear end wall of the is extended at 35 above its side to disengage it from magazine parts, this extension being slightly narrower than the magazine to fit between the side walls 36 ofa recess 37 in the under side of the receiver and restin against the edges bounding said recess, as s own in Figs. 4 and 9 of the drawings, A rib 38 is formed at the back of the magazine on the outer surface thereof and extending in the direction of its depth, the upper end of this rib being locatedin a groove 39 at the end of. the opening 17. The upper edges of the side and end walls of the magazine rest closely against the under side of the receiver around the edges of the recess 37. The well 25 is located in the rib 38, the upper end of which is flush with the bottom wall of the breech bolt chamber 40 in the receiver.

While I have shown and described herein a satisfactory construction of parts embodying my ideas, this may be departed from to a greater or lesser degree and yet be within the spirit and intent of the invention.

I claim 1. A firearm including a frame and a sliding magazlne bottom, said parts having a recess and a well opening out of said recess and smaller than the bottom thereof, a lock-' ing bolt movably mounted in said well and in its normal position in the path of sliding movement of said bottom, a prong projecting from said bolt near one-"side thereof to permit sliding movement of the magazine bottom when the bolt recess therein and while the jects into said recess.

5. Afirearm including a frame embodying a receiver with a breech-bolt chamber therein and an opening through the bottom of said chamber. a trigger plate removably secured to the frame and having an upwardly projecting part constituting a magazine extending into and fitting a part of the opening through the bottom of the receiver and with a well extending longitudinally within a rib extending vertically along the outer surface of the rear wall of said magazine, said magazine opening through the trigger plate, a magazine bottom for closing the opening in the trigger plate, and a locking bolt located in said well in the rear wall of the magazine and adapted to hold said bottom in place.

6. A firearm including a frame embodying a receiver with a breech bolt chamber therein and an opening through the bottom of said chamber, a trigger plate secured to the underside of the receiver and having a central pro ection with an opening therethrough formlng a magazine chamber, the rear wall of said chamber being thickenedand proectlng into and fitting the rear edge of the opening into the receiver, said rear wall having a well extending thereinto, a magazine bottom covering the opening in the bottom of th m azm cham r, and a lea underneath the frame and having projections to receive fastening means to secure the plate to the receiver, a projection intermediate the ends of said trlgger plate, said projection having an opening forming a magazine chamber registering with the opening through the bottom wall of the breech bolt chamber, the front wall of the magazine chamber abutting against the under side of the receiver and the rear wall extending upwardly and fitting the opening through the bottom of the breech bolt chamber, said rear wall having a well extending vertically within a rib extending vertically along the outer surface of the magazine, a magazine bottom to cover the opening through the trigger plate into the magazine chamber, and a lock- 1ng bolt located in said well to retain the magazine bottom in place.

8. A firearm including a frame and a sliding magazine bottom, one of said parts having a recess, and one of said parts having a well smaller than said recess, a locking bolt located in said well, and a prong projecting from the end of said bolt near one side thereof to permit sliding movement of the magazine bottom when the bolt is removed from the recess therein and while the prong still projects into said recess.

9. A firearm including a frame and a sliding magazine bottom, a well in said frame, a

recess in saidbottom larger than said well, said recess having a hole comprising a part of said .well, a locking bolt movably mounted in said well, and a prong projecting from the end of said lock near one side thereof to permit sliding movement of the magazine bottom when the bolt is removed from the recess therein and while the prong still projects into said recess.

10. A firearm embodying a frame and including a receiver having a breech bolt chamber therein, an opening through the bottom of said chamber and a recess in its under surface wider than said opening, a magazine projecting upwardly and having an end wall to fit between the side walls of said recess and a projection narrower than said end wall and projecting into said opening, and means for securing the magazine to the receiver.

11. A firearm including a frame embodying a receiver with a breech bolt chamber therein and an opening through the bottom of said chamber with a groove in one end of said opening, a magazine projecting upwardly and having an end wall with a rib extending vertically along its outer surface, the upper end of said rib extending into said groove, and said rib having a well extendmg thereinto, a locking bolt located in said well, a magazine bottom secured by said bolt, and means for securing the magazine to the receiver.

12. A firearm including a frame and a sliding magazine bottom, said parts having a recess and a well opening from said recess and smaller than the bottom thereof, a look ing bolt mounted in said Well and movable in a direction transverse to the plane of movement of said bottom and in its normal position in the path of sliding movement of said bottom, a prong projecting from said locking bolt at one side thereof to permit sliding movement of the magazine bottom after the bolt is removed from the recess in said bottom and While the prong still projects thereinto, and means for securing the edge of said bottom opposite said bolt.

13. A firearm including a frame having a well therein, a magazine bottom having a recess registering with said well, means for securing one edge of the bottom, a locking bolt located in said well in the path of sliding movement of said bottom, and a prong projecting from said bolt near one side thereof into said recess to permit sliding move ment of the magazine bottom after the bolt is removed from the recess in said bottom and while the prong still projects thereinto, said bolt being movable in a direction transverse to thedirection of movement of the magazine bottom.

A firearm including a frame having a well therein, a sliding magazine bottom having a recess therein, an opening from the bottom of said recess into said well and of substantially the size of said well, means for retaining one edge of. said bottom in place, a locking bolt located in said well in the path of sliding movement of said bottom, and a prong projecting from the end of said bolt to permit sliding movement of the magazine bottom after the bolt is removed from the recess in said bottom and while the prong still projects thereinto, said bolt being movable in a direction transverse to the direction of movement of the magazine bottom.

15. A firearm including a frame with a magazine chamber therein, a bottom plate, said parts having a recess and a well smaller than the recess and opening thereoutof a locking bolt located in said well and 9. prong on the locking bolt near one side thereof to permit sliding movement of the magazine bottom after the bolt is removed from the recess in said bottom and while the prong still projects thereinto, said bolt being movable in a direction transverse to the direction of movement of the magazine bottom. 16. A firearm including a frame having a well therein, a sliding magazine bottom havengage said bottom to retain said lip inwsaid f groove, and 3, prong projecting from the end of said look at one side thereof to permlt sliding movement of the magazine bottom after the lock is removed from said recess and while the prong still projects thereinto, said lock beingmovable in a direction transverse to the direction of movement of the ma azinebottom.

1 A firearm including a frame embodying a receiver with a breech-bolt chamber therein and an opening through the bottom of said chamber with a groove in one edge of said opening, a magazine projecting upwardly and having an end wall with a rib extending vertically alongits outer surface, the upper end of said rib extending into said groove, a locking bolt located in a well in said rib, a magazine bottom secured by said bolt, and means for securing the magazine bottom to the receiver.

18. A firearm including a frame and a sliding magazine bottom having a recess with a hole opening from the recess to the opposite side of said bottom and smaller than said recess thereby forming a shoulder, said frame havin a. well registering with said hole, a shoul ered locking bolt mounted means for securing the opposite edge of the magazine bottom.

19. A firearm including a frame with a magazine chamber therein, a bottom to close said chamber, one of said parts having a well and one of said parts having a recess larger than said Well and located at. the mouth thereof, means for r'emovably engaging one edge of said bottom with the frame, and a locking bolt located in said well and movable in the direction of the depth thereof.
