Be it known that I, REUBEN J. EDWARDS, a citizen of the United States, residing at lllaterhury, in thecounty of Washington Tand State of Vermont, have invented a new and useful.Improvement in Scythe-Snathe Fastenings, of which the following descripytion, taken in connection with the accom- "ln devices or' this character. 4without sacrificing strength and rigidity 6of the structure after the adjustment has been made, and it is the object ot this invention to overcome this difficulty.
A'fnrther object is to provide an adjustable Afastening in which the fastening bolt is of ordinary standard formation, thus doing,` away with bolts having specially constructed heads. The hand 1 is provided with an extension A further object is to so 5 on one side, to provide a bearing 6 for a stud 7, which is integral with an adjustable plate 8, and provides a pivot about which said plate may be oscillated. Firmly embedded in the snathe. and secured against movement therein by means of a projection 13 thereof pressed into the wood, is a holding plate 1t nrovidcd 4with an aperture 15 for the passage ot' the heit 11, and having a lug 1G thereon, in the face of which are cut a pair of teeth i? so prof portioned and beveled as to eoact with the teeth 12 of the plate 8. The teeth 12, at their inner portions, project out-ward slightly from the face ot' the plate 8, and the opposed tace of the holding plate 1d: accordingly provided with a curved transverse groove 18 adapted to receive said projecting portions.
