Description

' 1.]. SMITH. WRI ST WATCH CONTAINER. APPLICATION FlLED 1AN.15.I917- RENEWED OCT. 1,260,278.
'PzitentedMar. 19, 1918 JOSEPH J- SMITH, 0F NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
WRIST-WATCH CONTAINER.
Application filed January 15, 1917, Serial No. 142,553. Renewed October 17,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JosErH J. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing in the cityof Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in WVrist- Watch Containers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact-description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to numerals of reference marked thereon, forming a part of this specification.
My invention relates to containers for wrist watches, and the object thereof is to provide means for securely incasing a watch and securely holding same in its case when applied to the person of the wearer, as for instance, to the wrist.
Further objects of my invention are to simplifythe construction of the device, thus making it inexpensive, easy to manufacture and less liable to disarrangement when in use.
In describing my invention, reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, illustrating the different forms of my invention, and in which Figure 1 represents a plan view ofthe preferred form of my invention.
Fig. 2 represents a side elevation of the same. 1
Fig. 3 represents a longitudinal section of the watch holder, and
Figs. 4 and 5 represent respectively, a plan and a longitudinal section of the locking bar illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2.
Similar numerals of reference refer to like parts throughout the specification and drawings.
In the drawings, 1 represents the watch holder, which may be made of any suitable material, preferably celluloid, the form and dimensions being determined by its intended use. The holder is preferably circular in form, and provided with an opening 2, through which the dial of the watch is visible. The top side of the holder is beveled or rounded as at 3, to conform to the shape of the Watch, and the lower side of the holder, at diametrically-opposite points, as at 44, is curved to conform to the shape of the wrist. Two openings 5-5, also arranged diametrically-opposite to each other, are provided for receiving a locking bar 9. A
Specification of Letters Patent.

slotted opening 7, ending in an enlargement 8, is provided at one side, for receiving and holding the stem of the watch when same is in position.
In Fig. 3 of the drawings, I have indicated the slotted opening 7 ending in an enlargement 8, as part of one of the locking bar receir ing openings 5. This construction enables the user to so position the watch, that the stem thereof, instead of projecting at right angles from the strap, as indicated in Fig. 1 of the drawings, will lie parallel with and above the strap 6, which, when the holder is secured to the wrist of the wearer, will facilitate the winding of the watch.
9 represents a springy locking bar, which maybe made of any suitable material, preferably celluloid, the ends of which are pro 10-10, for receivin the strap 6. The central portion of the locking bar 9 is chambered so as to conform to the back of the watch, for which it provides a support, and the ends of the locking bar, through which the strap passes, are also preferably curved, to conform to the shape of the wrist.
It will thus be seen that I have provided a holder in combination with a locking bar, said locking bar passing through suitable openings arranged in the holder, the said locking bar being so formed as to provide a support for the watch and further provided with means for receiving a strap. The parts as previously stated, may be made of any suitable material, preferably celluloid, and are of such shape as to lend themselves readily to manufacture by the use of suitable punches and dies.
Experience has demonstrated that the or-- ganization above described is a highly eflicient one, and while the device described is the preferred embodiment of my present invention, I do not wish to restrict myself to the exact details of construction, combination and arrangement herein set forth, it being obvious that minor variations thereof, not involving the exercise of invention, may be made by any skilled mechanic, and such departures from what is herein described and claimed, I consider within the scope and terms of my claims.
I claim:
1. In a watch container, the combination with a casing provided at its front with an opening for exposing the dial of the watch contained therein, and further provided near Cir its lower side with registering openings and a locking bar removably located in said openings.
2. In a watch container, the combination with a casing provided at its front with an opening for exposing the dial of the watch contained therein, the lower side of said holder at diametrically-opposite points being curved to conform to the shape of the wrist, and further provided near its lower side with registering openings and a looking bar removably located in said 0 enings.
3. In a watch container, the com ination with a casing provided at its front with an opening for exposin the dial of the watch contained therein, t e lower side of said holder at diametrically-opposite points being curved to conform to the shape of the wrist, and further provided near its lower side with registering openings, and a looking bar removably located in said openings, the central portion of said locking bar being chambered and the ends of said locking bar being provided with openings for receiving a strap or the like.
This specification signed and witnessed this tenth day of January, 1917.
JOSEPH J. SMITH.
