To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MILTON S. CAMPBELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Elmira Heights, in the county of Chemung and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Heel.- Plates; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to heel plates and more particularly to that class of plates which are designedto prevent slipping upon ice or any slippery surface by a person using the same.

Another object of my invention is to pro vide a plate of this character which may be worn at all times without detriment to a smoothly polished floor or carpets or rugs.

A further object is to provide a plate which is at all times self-sharpening and is free to rotate upon the heel, being easily detachable from the same and readily applied when desired.

With the foregoing general objects in view, my invention resides in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and'claimed, the descriptive matter being supplemented by the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this application, and in which:

Figure 1 is a side elevation of a portion of a shoe, showing my anti-slipping plate attached;

Fig. 2 is a bottom plan thereof; and,

Fig. 3 is a central vertical sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.

To this end my invention comprises a circular substantially concavo-convex plate 1 secured to the bottom of the heel 2 by means of a screw or other suitable fastening member extending through an aperture provided in the center of the plate to receive the fastening member and of suflicient size to per mit of rotation of the plate with respect to the heel. The inner convex face of this plate is flattened adjacent its center to provide a bearing for the plate against the heel. The outer face of the plate being substantially concave, provides a raised outer edge on the plate which is spaced from the heel. This outer edge is provided with a flattened surface 8 which forms a sharp beveled biting edge 4 on the plate.

()wing to the construction of this biting edge, the flattened surface will wear in contact with the ground or ice and maintain the bevel of the edge at all times, owing to the convex construction of the inner face of the plate.

The operation of my device is obvious from the description and it is not thought necessary to elaborate on the same more than to say that the plate is applied to the heel by means of a screw or other suitable fastening member or that the plate and heel may be secured together as a unit and the heel applied to the shoe if desired. The plate lies wholly within the curve of the rear of the heel and owing to its construction, it will be seen that it will not scar or otherwise deface a floor or rug traversed by the user, as the biting edge is provided with a flattened surface.

From the foregoing, it will be seen that I have provided a heel plate which is simple and cheap to manufacture and may be constructed of metal which as in the preferred form of my invention is used, or it may be constructed of any suitable material desired and may be readily applied to or detached from the heel of a shoe.

I claim An antislipping device for attachment to a shoe-heel comprising a rigid concavo-convex centrally apertured plate provided with a flattened upper face, said upper face forming a bearing surface for the heel, a screw passing through the central aperture of said plate to engage the heel for rotatably securing said plate in position, the outer edge of said plate having a horizontally flattened surface to form a self-sharpening beveled edge, and said plate being of an area substantially approximating that of a major portion of the heel and adapted to be substantially centrally positioned on said heel.
