Description

N. ABESON.
SCAFFOLD.
APPLICATION FlLED DEC. 8.}917.
Patented Mar. 19, 1918.
INVENTOR file/5 fireson I WITNESSES A TTOR/VEYS a v 1 A s NELS ARESON, 0F PORTLAND, OREGON.
SCAFFOLD.
Application filed December 8,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, N as ARnsoN, a citizen of Norway, and a resident of Portland, in the county of Multnomah and State of Oregon, have invented a new and Improved Scafiold, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to scaffold support ing means and more particularly to a scaffold support comprising hangers provided at their upper ends with adjustable bracket arms to hook over a beam, or hook over or otherwise engage an equivalent fixed member, the hangers having lower bracket arms adapted to sustain the scaffold platform.
The prime object of my invention is to provide a structure of the indicated character in which the adjustment of the upper and lower bracket arms relatively to the hangers may be quickly and conveniently effected and in which the several bracket arms will be firmly held in the adjusted position.
More specifically the invention has for an object to provide corresponding adjusting means for all the upper and lower bracket arms, whereby the structure is simplified and the adjustment facilitated.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a scaffold embodying my invention;
Fig. 2 is an end view thereof;
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the fastener pin employed to retain the bracket arms against displacement.
In carrying out my invention in practice, hanger bars 10 are provided, a minimum of four hangers being usually necessary in practice. At the upper end of each hanger is a bracket arm 11 adapted to engage a beam A or other fixed support. Below the upper bracket 11 is a bracket arm 12 extending from the hanger 10 at the opposite side from the arm 11 and in the opposite direction and adapted to sustain the platform B. The upper bracket arm 11 has a depend ing hook or downwardly bent end 13 while the arm 12 at its free end has an upwardly extending hook or upstanding member 14.
To provide for the lateral adjustment of Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 19, 1918. 1917. Serial No. 296,214.
the upper bracket arm 11 to snugly engage the beam A or other support, I form on the hanger 10 at the upper end a transverse eye I or loop 15 through which the shank of the arm 11 extends, the said shank and the eye being preferably oblong and in any case non-circular to prevent turning movement of the bracket arm. In the arm 11 a series pf pin holes 16 are formed, any one of which 1s adapted to receive a retaining pin 17 acting after the manner of a cotter. The pin 17 is made angular with a head at the end of one arm, the other arm preferably being pointed to be readily passed through a pin hole 16. The arms of the pin 17 merge into each other on curved lines to facilitate the passage of the pin through the pin holes. In the case of the arm 12 the eye is formed on said arm. while the pin holes are in the hanger 10. Thus. the eye 18 of said bracket arm 12 has free sliding movement vertically on the hanger 10 while the latter has transverse pin holes 19 to receive a pin 17 corresponding in all respects with the pin 17,
so that, the bracket having been positioned at the desired elevation. the pin 17 is passed through the hanger beneath the bracket arm. The hook 13 is adapted to engage the back of the beam A while the book 14 is adapted to be passed into an opening between the longitudinal boards of the platform. B. It will be seen that three corresponding elements make up a hanger and its appurtenances and that the same form of pin is employed with each hanger. The arrangement is designed to provide a simple and strong construction permitting of the adjustment of the bracket arms with the maximum facility.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent:
In a scaffold supporting means, ahanger formed with a transverse eye at the upper end, a bracket arm adjustably and removably fitting the said eye and formed with a depending hook member at one end whereby the bracket arm may be hooked over a beam or like support, said bracket arm having a longitudinal series of pin holes, a pin adapted to be remova-bly received in any one of said pin holes to prevent longituarm being formed with an eye and slidable dinal displacement of thelbracketwarm in on thehanger,said hanger having a vertical one direction, a second: bracket arm on the series of pin. helee inthelovver portijonthere shank of said hangep below the first arm and of, and a fastener pm removably receivable 10 5 havmg an upstanding member at its free in any one of the last mentioned pin holes.
end, the opposite end of the eondddracket NELS ARESON.
