This invention relates to side-arms, especially to thearms of sharp edgesand point, as the saber and sword, although it can be applied to other arms of the same class as the cane-knife, and the object of this inven- -tionis to make of these side-arms also a firearm by arranging on the cross-head thereof -a barrel and shooting mechanism, sothat i l closed.

Supposing a-saber having a blade 1, a handle or hilt 2, a hand-guard 3 and the cross-head 4, the invention consists in constructing the saber so that the cross-head .4 may be formed by the barrel and slider of a repeating firearm and the handle or hilt 2 may be formed by the cartridge magazine of saidfire arm without the saber losing its shape. The handle or hilt 2 is. formed by a frame in the form of a casing which is open at its side and ends, on one of which sides fits the extension 1 of the saber bladell, the same being secured in position by the engagement of its point in a recess 6 formed in a side of the lowerend of frame 2 and by means of a screw 7 whichfixes it to the cross-piece 5 of said frame and a head pin projecting laterally from the frame and which fits in a notch 9 formed on the side portion of blade 1. Frame 2 is covered on its fixed onthe sides of said frame bymeans of springmembers -I1 projecting from the inner faces of said shellsand fitting in small recesses with narrow entrance apertures 12 formed inthe sides of frame 2.

When the sliding piece advances again under the action of spring 23, the central lower portion of the sliding piece 4 pushes the first cartridge 40, introducing it into the chamber of barrel 20, the
base of the shell of said cartridge 40 being still held by the angular pawl 38, as shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings. Now, by ina a wardly pressing the button 47,'the small so i j the hammer 52 which by the tension of lever 50 is actuated and its freeend releases spring 54 is oscillated on its pivot and impinges against block 29 of the striker 30 thus occasioning the striking thereof on the cartridge cap, producing the shot. At this time the expansive force of the gases formed by the explosion of the cartridge drives back the sliding piece 4, but on backward movement of the central lower part of this slider, which held in position the first cartridge of the magazine, 41, it releases this T es.

y This firing mechanism has the advantage [Qver the ones now in use of being safer in its handling since the button or trigger 47 is normally contained wholly in its cavity, it being impossible therefore for the arm to discharge accidentally.
It is obvious that the form of the pieces comprising the repeating mechanism for the shooting of cartridges can be slightly varied or changed, as can also be varied the cartridgemagazine adapting it to the form of any side arm desired, without altering the spirit of the invention which is as pointed out in the following claims.
