IMPROVEMENT IN, TURN-BUCKLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 125,999, dated April 23, 1872.
ication, in which- Figure l represents a sectional View of my improvement, showing a tube provided with a head made square, hexagonal, or octagonal to to receive a wrench for turning, in which is a screw-thread to receive one end of a tensionrod, the other end ofthe tube being provided with an internal annular shoulder, against which a head made on another rod bears, to tighten up.
My invention relates to turn-buckles for tension-rods; and it consists in incasin g the screw so as to retain a lubricator, to prevent rusting, while it is much lighter and stronger than a link of the same weight, and draws in a direct line with the rod.
To enable others to make and use my improvement, I will further describe it, referring to the drawing.
A short piece of tubing, A, of any required size, may be upset or have a thimble welded or bra-Zed into one end to form the annular shoulder a .for the head b on the rod B to hold against, the screw-nut G projecting out from the tube A, and so formed as to receive a wrench, to turn it with,on the screw-rod B fitted into it. The tube A may be also made with screwnuts O on one end and G on the other, to receive right and left screw-rods 'D and H, as shown in Fig. 3.
The advantages of my improvement over the link turn-buckles now in use are that they can be lighter, are much stronger, and symmetrical in their appearance, are more easily operated, retain their lubrication, and are more durable.
What I claim is- A turn-buckle the body of which is composed of a hollow tube or pipe, the same having a thimble and collar welded or otherwise secured to its ends in such a manner as to form a swivel and screw-nut, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name in the presence of witnesses.
MALCOM WHITE.
