Another object of the invention is to so construct this hammer and the blocks that the blocks may be securely held in place and prevented from having movement and atthe same time to so construct the hammer and blocks that they may be easily removed when desired.

Another object of the invention is to so construct the branding hammer that when the blocks are in place a substantially solid structure will be provided thus preventing danger of breakage or slipping of the blocks when the hammer is used.

This hannner 10 is provided with an e1:- tension or socket 11 to receive the handle 12 and is provided with the heads 18 and 14-, each of which is provided with a cutout forming a chamber or pocket 15. The blocks 16 which fit into the chamber 15 of the head 13 may be provided with letters shown thus permitting initials to be stamped in the wood or they may he provided with any suitable characters desired. It is-preferable, however, to have the blocks of the head 13 provided with initials and the blocks lZ-fitting into the chamber 15 of the head 14 provided with a private mark thus perinitting' the wood to be marked with the private mark and with the initials of the owner.

The blocks 16 are each provided with a pin 18 and a socket l9 and it will thus be seen that when these blocks are placed as shown in Fig. 2 and in Fig. 3, the pinswill fit into the sockets of adjoining blocks thus preventing independent movement of the blocks. 'IThe head 13 is provided with a groove forming an extension of the chamber 15 thus 1permitting the blocks to be put in place. ..t is not necessary to provide the chamber 15 of the head M with an extension as the blocks 17 are not provided with pins. After the blocks have been put in place, the set screws 21 and 22 will be tightened and will enter the sockets l9 and 23 formed in the blocks 16 and 17 thus securely but releasably holding the blocks in place. When it is desired to change the marking, it is simply necessary to release-the set screws 21 and QQandthe blocks can then he removed and either reversed if this will produce the desired combination or the blocks can be removed and new ones put in place.
