Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 19, 1918.
Application filed liebrilarsr 23, 1917. Serial No. 150,597.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that l, PAUL MAKRAY, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, who have declared my intention of becoming a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county7 of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in rToys, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in toys, and more especially to toy bowling alleys, the object of the invention being to provide a simple and efficient toy of this character which may be readily folded into compact form.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and 1n which,
lFigure 1 is a top plan view of a toy embodying my invention,
Fig. 2, a longitudinal section of the same,
Fig. 3, a ottom plan view 'of the same with portions broken away for the sake of clearness,
Fig. 4, a longitudinal section taken through a toy gun or projector employed in the construction,
Fig. 5, an end view of said projector, and
Fig. 6a view of the toy folded into compact form.
The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawings comprises a game board made up of two sections 7 and 8 hingedly connected together by means of hinges 9 on the bottom thereof so as to fold downwardly. The board sections 7 and 8 are provided with side boards 10 constituting a miniature bowling alley, and suitable supporting legs are arranged at the front and rear thereof.
A set of miniature 'bowling pins 12 are arranged at the rear of the game board and are connected at theirbottoms with branch cords 13 extending through perforations in the in spots l,and connected with an operating cord 1li/extending to the front of the toy where it is connected with an operating lever 15. A casing 16 incloses the branch cords 13 to protect the same.
A toy gun or projector 17 is arranged at the front end of the board, said projector being equipped with a spring held plunger 18 operable by means of a setting lever 19 and controlled by a trigger 20 adapted to f engage a notch 21 therein. A ball receptacle or hopper 22 is positioned on the projector 17 and is adapted to contain a plurallty of balls 23 automatically fed by gravity, one at a time, into the projector 17 upon reciprocation of the plunger `18, as will be readily understood. A cotter pin 24 is passed through the muzzle end of the projector 17 and is attached thereto by means of a cord 25, said pin serving to retain the balls in the projector when desired.
The projector is mounted on the board portion 7 by means of a hinge 26, one leaf of said'hinge being secured to the bottom of said projector and the other leaf 27 of said hinge being pivoted by means of a screw 28 to the board 7, the arrangement being such that the projector 17 may be oscillated laterally to project the balls to any desired portion of the rear end of the bowling alley and may be readily folded fiat when not in use. A segmental rest 29 is provided for the muzzle end of the projector 17.
By this arrangement an ordinary game of ten pins may be played on the board and the pins 12 readily reset when desired. Also the oard may be readily folded into compact form for shipment or otherwise, .as indicated in Fig. 6.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into eii'ect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but
desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention whatv I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A game board and a projector therefor, said projector being hingedly mounted on said board to fold thereagainst and pivoted to oscillate laterally with respect to said board, substantially as described.
2'. A game board; a hinge member having one leaf pivoted to said board to oscillate therein; and a projector secured to the other leaf of said hinge member to fold against said board, substantially as described.
3. A device of the class described comprising a foldable game board consisting of two ioo parts hinged together centrally to fold down- In testimony whereof I have signed my Wardly; side boards on said game board; name to this specification in the presence of l0 supporting legs at each end of said board; a two subscribing Witnesses.v
hinge member having one leaf pivoted to said board to osoillate therein; and a pro- PAUL MAKRAY jeotor secured to the other leaf of said hlnge Witnesses: member to fold against said board, substan JOSHUA R. H. Po'rrs,
tially as describe HELEN F. LILLEs.
