A TTORNE Y able device of this character which may stir MARY A. GERER, 0F DENVER, COLQRADO.
'BED-DRAPERY FIXTURE.
Application filed February 19, 1917.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARY A. Gnnnn, a citizen of the United States, .residing at Denver, in the county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bed-Drapery Fixtures, of which the following is a specifica tion.
My invention relates to bed drapery fixtures, and one object is to produce a simple and inexpensive device of this character adapted to be applied to the head of a bed for supporting the drapery to hide the pillows and give the bed a neat and ornamental appearance.
A further object is to provide an adjustbe lengthened or shortened to fit beds of different widths and one which can also be readily applied to bed posts of various cross sectional areas and configurations.
In order that the invention may be fully understood, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 shows av bed provided with my fixture.
Fig. 2- is a broken plan View of the fixture applied to two round bed posts.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of one of the fastening members whereby the fixture is secured to the bed.
Fig. 4 is a broken plan view of one end of the fixtures applied to a square bed post.
A designates a bed, the head of which embodies two round posts B, to which my fixture is applied.
Said fixture embodies a tubular member 1 reinforced at its free end by a ferrule 12 and removably-secured at its opposite end by a screw 3 in the tubular extension 4 of rightangular clamp member 5.
The clamp member 5 is adapted to coact with a flexible member 6 having a series of holes 7, any of which is adapted to pass over a button 8 on the clamp member 5 and thus removably-secure one end of the flexible member 6 to said clamp member 5.
The opposite end of the flexible member 6 has a threaded element 10 fixed thereto and adapted to pass freely through an opening in the end of the clamp member 5 opposite the end containing the button 8. Said threaded element 10 is provided with a thumb nut 11, whereby it may be drawn for- .Specification of Letters Patent.

ward through the opening in the clamp member 5 to cause the same and the coacting member 6 to firmly grip the bed post.
12 designates a rod adapted to telescope into the tubular member 1, so that the fixture may be extended or contracted to fit beds of dilferent widths. The rod 12 like the tubular member 1 is curved backwardly at its fixed end which is secured by a screw 3 to the tubular extension 1 of a clamp member 5, which coacts with a flexible member 6 having holes therein to pass over the button 7 and provided at its opposite end with a threaded element 10 having a thumb-nut 11. As disclosed by the drawing and the description, the parts described by the characters 3 to 11, inclusive, on the rod 12 are duplicates of the correspondingly numbered parts at the rear end of the tubular member 1.
In applying the fixture to either round or square bed posts, the tubular member 1 and the rod 12 are first adjusted longitudinally to allow the clamp members 5 to engage the front sides of said bed posts. The flexible members 6 are then passed around the backs of the posts and hooked over the respective buttons 7, after which the slack in said members 6 is taken up by proper manipulation of the thumbnuts 11. The threaded members 10 and the holes 7 in the flexible members 6 enable the fixture to be applied to a large variety of sizes in bed posts.
From the foregoing description, it is apparent that I have produced a simple and inexpensive fixture which can be readily applied to beds of dififerent sizes, and bed posts of difierent cross sectional areas and configurations, and while I have shown and described the preferred form of device, I reserve the right to make such changes in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as properly fall within the spirit and scope of the claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
In a fixture of the type set forth, a pair of adj ustably connected rods each having an out-turned outer end, a clamp for the outer ends of the rods, each clamp including a tubular part rigidly secured over the said outer ends of the rods and having a substantially \l-shaped notch in the outer end thereof, a substantially V-shaped jaw member secured in said notch so as to have the arms of the jaw extend beyond said tubular part, one of said jaws having its outer end extended outwardly and perforated, a but;- ton secured to the other jaw, a flexible strap having a series of openings in one end to receivesaid button, a threaded stem secured to the other end of the strap and received through said perforation of said jaw exten- 10 sion, and a nut on the threaded stem engaging said jaw extension.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
MARY A. GERER.
