To all whom 'it may coince/m.'
Beit known that I, ALBERT AL. MiiJLiGi-xn, a citizen of 'tli'e United States, residing Dallas, in the county of Dallas and Stat-'e 'of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VAttachments for Carbureters, of which the following isa specification.
My invention has relation to an attachment for carbureters for automobile engines and in such connection it relates more par- Heretofore several attempts` haveV been made to utilize the heated air or vapor accumulating in the top of radiator by feeding the same to the carbureter but when such means were simple no provision was :made to prevent the overflow of water during the filling lof the radiator, into the pipe leading the air or vapor to theV carbureter. Some devices for preventing the-water thus loverflowing into the hot air or vapor feed pipe from entering the carbureter have been devised but demanded the use of floats and valves of complicated structure and arrangement. d v
t is the main object of my invention to provide a means whereby only the hot air or vapor may be sucked into the carbureter, the feed pipe from the hot `air chamber of the radiator being provided at itsdischarge Y end with an air sealing device in the form .of
' ing description which will permit the overiiow a siphon be discharged 'automatically but waterV to will prevent the sucking in of external air'` from the discharge end of the feed pipe to the Vcarbureter.-
In carrying out my invention there is provided a main pipe leading'from the top of the radiator to the external air. The discharge end of this pipe is provided with a siphon overflow and the hot air feed pipe leading from'theV main pipe to the carbureter' taps the main pipe at a point above the si- Y phon overiiow. d
The'nature and scope of my` invention will be more fully understood from the followtaken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, in which-fd f Figure 1, is a perspective view of an auf 'Specification of v--Ileiztlers Patent.

the main features-of Fig. 2, is a side elevational view partly in rangement of the lower or outlet Vend of the main pipe and of the hot air feed pipe tapping said main pipe and leading to the carbureter.

section illustrating the construction and ar- .p 65. Fig. 3, is a side `elevational view partly in the radiator and 2 the carbureter of an automobile engine 3. From thetop ofthe radiator 1 preferably within the cap 4. leads the main pipe 5 designed to conduct the hot air or vapor accumulating in the top of the radiator 1 to the air intake 6. This pipeV 5 leads to the exterior of the engine and is designed to discharge Voverflow of water from the radiator to the open air'. l l r To the outlet end of pipe 5 is coupled or otherwise secured a trap 8 of the ordinary In Fig.,2, this trap is formed by bending U-shape. The top of the trap 8 is tapped as at v9 and a feed pipe 10 conducts the hot air in main pipe 5 to the air intake 6. The
- trap 8 is a seal for the lowerend of the pipe 5, the water accumulating in' the bends of-v the trap to prevent the air from ventering from the exterior of the engine into said pipe 5. Whenoverflow of water from radiator v1 enters the pipe 5, 'said water will pass through the trap 8 and discharge tothe ex- I i terior of the Vengine but said overflow water will not flow into the feed pipe 10 Vnor into the carbureter 2.
In Fig. 5 a modification is shown in which the trap is formed by boring a solid block or casting 18 and plugging up the unnecessary openings by plugs 19.. In this form the v feed pipe 10 taps the trap through a hole bored as at 20 in the top of casting 18, and
a cork ball 21 inserted in theA trap prevents entrance of exterior air to the trap lif the water in the trap should evaporate or escape. p l` Hai/'ing thus described the nature and ob.- said casting, in combination 'with a pipe jects of 1ny invention ywhat I claiin asneW leading to one longitudinal bore, a pipe leadand desire to secure by Letters Patent, ising from another longitudinal bore and 'a In a device of the character described, a pipe extending transversely of the block and 5 solid casting bored longitudinally and transentering the longitudinal borel below the l5 versely to form a Siphon passage extending lead-in pipe. Vthrough the casting, said transverse bores In testimony whereof YI havesigned my being plugged at the outer portions of the name to this specification. casting and an intermediate Ylongitudinal Y 10 bore being also closed at the upper edge of ALBERT L. MILLIGAN.
