1 10 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALFRED GRIFFITH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of McAlestcr, in the county of Pittsburg and State of Oklahoma, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fasteners for Collars and the like, of which the following is a specification.

My present invention relates garment fasteners, and fasteners designed for the like, my object bcii'ig: .o provide a button carrying member capable of utilization for instance, at the rear of the neck-band of a shirt, for effective use irrespective of the usual button-hole at this point of the collar and.

As is well known, the collar band of the usual shirt has at the rear portion thereof, a separated section of nmtcrial at its outer part, which section of material carries the button-hole in order that the base of a collar button extended through the button-hole, will lie between the main portion of the neck-band and said separate section of tcriul. To this end, my invention consists in the fastener of the construction to be now described, shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein:

At its larger end, the plate 10 has side exsccuring collars and tensions 14 bent to receive the extremities of a hinge pin 15 the particular construction of which is shown in Fig. 6.

This hinge pin 15 has a central enlargemerit 16 provided with a flattened face 17, and the other plate 11 has at its enlarged end a pair of extensions 18 also adapted to receive the extensions of the bin c pin and to engage the latter at opposite sldes of the central enlargement 16 thereof and between the extensions 14 of the plate 10.

In use, the hinge pin 15 is preferably in immovable relation to the plate 10 and is for this purpose rigidly united with the extensions 14-, in order that the flattened surface 17 of the hinge pin enlargement 16 may be in definite relation to the plate 10, at all times.

The plate 11 is further provided with an extension 19 projecting beyond its enlarged end a point between its extensions 18, the free end of which forms a spring engaging the flattened surface 17 of the hinge pin enlargement 16 so as to normally urge the plate 11 toward and into engagement with the plate 10, these plates being as before stated, in a face to face relation so that they normally assume the contacting position shown in Fig. 2.

Thus in the use of stance, as a fastener my invention, for infor the rear portion of a collar, the plate 11, by slight separation from the plate 10 as seen in Fig. 1, may be pressed upwardly beneath the free lower edge of the rear separate section of material of a collar band, usually carrying the button-hole for the rear collar-button, and by releasing the plate 10, the spring 19 will force the plates toward one another and their roughened inner surfaces will engage the inner and outer faces of said separate section of material so as to tightly clamp the same.

.The outer plate 10 carries a button-like fliu engaging member which in the present instance, I have shown in the form of a shank 20 extending from its outer face and intefiral therewith, the outer end of the shank aving a head 21 which is thus cngageable with the button-hole of the collar, with the plates in the clamped position at the rear of the collar-hand as above described, so as to securely hold the rear of the collar in a proper definite relation to the rear of the collar band, and which relation may obviously be varied with my improvement, that is adjusted vertically where it is desired to either lower orelevate the rear of the collar. While I have thus fully described my invention and specified its use in one particular instance, it is obvious that my invention is capable of various uses and may be adapted to a variety thereof, where it is a consideration to employ a button or an er'igaging member of like nature, without perforation of the goods to form a button-hole as usual, or where slight adjustment in a quick, ready manner, is a consideration.
