JOHN N. PEASLEE, OF ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA.
CAMPING-STOVE.
Application filed March 2, 1917.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN N. PEASLEE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Camping- Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
One object of my invention is to provide a camping stove that may be quickly folded up into a compact bundle for transportation.
Another object of my invention is to pro vide in a camping stove, suitable means for broiling meat and the like.
Another object of my invention is to provide in a camping stove, a central support readily inserted in the earth.
Another object of my invention is to provide in a camping stove, foldable radial arms for supporting thereon receptacles for food that has been cooked.
With these and incidental objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction and combination of parts, the essential elements of which are hereinafter described with reference to the drawing which accompanies and forms a part of the specification.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is an isometric view of my preferred form of camp stove in operative position; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same; Fig. 3 is a view of the stove folded up for transportation; Fig. 4c is a section taken on the line fir-4, Fig. 2; and Fig. 5 is a sectional detail taken at A, Fig. 2.
In my preferred construction, I provide a flanged casting 1 Fig. 4:, having a series of ears 2, better shown in Fig. 2, and a socket 3, while the flange 4; has an annular bead 5.-
I-Iinged to the ears 2 at 6 are a series of radial arms 7 preferably of T section and supported at 8 by the bead 5.
A supporting stem 9, Fig. 1 is adapted to fit into the socket- 3, Fig. 4 and receive the flange casting 1 on the collar 10 so as to form a rotatable support for the stove.
One end of the supporting stem 9 is pointed as at 11, Fig. 1, and is to be driven into the ground to support the stove, while the other end, which carries a collar 10, terminates in a threaded portion 12 adapted to be screwed Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 5, 1918.
Serial No. 152,142.
in the threaded portion 13 when it is engaged with the flanged casting 1 from the opposite side.
For cooking meals in the open, the stem 9 is driven into the ground at the desired distance, the flanged casting 1 set over the top of the stem onto the collar 10, the radial arms 7 spread out, and utensils may either be hung therefrom or set on the arms.
Part of the radial arms 7 are connected by chains 1-1 which are fastened to the arms as at 15, Fig. 5, or in any suitable manner and serve as broiling plates and the like for coloking meat, or the support of small utens1 s. 7
When the stove has to be carried, the stem 9 engages the flange casting 1 by screw connection, and the radial arms 7 are folded down around the stem as shown in Fig. 3, making a compact and readily handled ackage.
While I have described my invention and illustrated it in one particular design, I do not wish it understood that I limit myself to this construction, as it is evident that the application of my invention may be varied in many ways within the scope of the following claims.
Claims:
1. In a camping stove the combination of a head, a flange carried by said head, radial arms hinged to said head, flexible means connecting said radial arms to form therewith a broiler.
2. In a camping stove, the combination of a head, foldable radial arms carried thereon and adapted to be supported at right angles thereto or folded parallel therewith, and a series of chains connecting said radial arms.
3. A camping stove comprising in combination, a head having a circular flange, a socket on one side of said head, a threaded aperture positioned in said head near the opposite end from said socket, a stem for driving into the earth to support said head and having a collar near the top end thereof, a threaded extension on the top end of said stem adapted to engage with the threaded aperture in said head, the length from said collar to said threaded extension being less than the depth of the socket in said head.
