Specification of Letters Patent.
patenten ren. ec, raie.
Application led March 9, 1917. Serial No. 153,716.
State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful lfmprovements in Trays', of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to the class of kitchen and table articles, and has particular reference to new and useful improvements in trays.
My invention relates to an improved holder or receiver on which to place bread, cake and 'the like to Acool when received from the vbaking oven, and its construction and arrangement of parts are such that air may asv readily pass to and reach the bottom of the cake or the like which rests on the holder as to the top or sides thereof.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a novel tray of the character described, that is of ,a portable nature, efficient in operation, and strong and durable in use.
A still further object of the invention is to provide an apparatus in which the parts thereof are closely assembled, and combined, thereby taking up a minimum amount of space. l
Other improvements and novel details in the construction and arrangement of the various parts of the apparatus will be brought out more inV detail in the description to follow, which, for a clear understanding of the invention, should be considered in connection with the accompanying drawing, forminga'part hereof, and wherein is disclosed, for the purpose of illustration, convenient and satisfactory embodiments of the invention. lt is to be noted,
in this connection, that minor changes in the construction and arrangement 'of the parts may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the principle of operation of the various parts.
bill
, the body portion.
f Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawing by the same reference characters.
My improved tray comprises a substantially rectangular wire frame l having supporting means connected to the corners thereof. The supporting means comprises U-shaped wire members 2,' the free ends thereof being coiled about the lframe 1, as indicated at. The body of my yinvention comprises a reticulated material member 4, preferably of 'wire, for an obvious purpose. Opposite sides of the frame member are provided with a pair of supporting guiding flanges designated F in their entirety for a purpose which will hereinafter be described I in detai The said guiding flanges comprise a s eet metal body portion 5 having ,to be cooled. ln order to provide the desired rigidity for the supporting trays when the same are extended a wire body member 11 is provided having laterally extending arms 12, thefree ends of which are coiled about the said frame providing the'desired supporting member. As the construction of both tray members are identical the description of one is thought to sufficet `Wire handle members 12 are provided on the outer edges of said trays forming means for withdrawing the same from closed position. Handles i3 and 14 are provided on the main body portion and are attached to the wire frame l to provide means for raising the entire device.
From the foregoing, it willbe readily understood by those skilled in the art that ll have provided an exceedingly eclent and simple holder for receiving hot bread, cakes, and other articles and permitting the same to cool for a period of time subsequent to their removal from an oven or other form of stove. The holder due to the provision of thereticulated material will permit a circulation of airbetween the same and the bottoms of the articles supported thereon. Obviously, the frame l serves as one support Stil len
lon
llo
While the slidable frames 9 aliord other supports, thereby permitting a plurality of objects to be arranged upon the holder for cooling. However, when not using the slidable supports 9, the same may be telescoped in the frame 1 dueto their engagement With the guiding flanges, thereby providing a compact device. By providing the arms 12, it will be readily understood that the outer ends of the slidable shelves 9 will be effectually supported When arranged in extended positions, thereby preventing undue tilting or'tipping of th'e main frame 1. The holder may be readily moved from place to place by means of the handles 12, 13 and 14 arranged therein.
I claim:
1. In a device ofthe character described, a main frame, a foraminated covering for said main frame, channeled guide elements secured to the opposite sides of the main 4to, supporting guiding frames mounted on opposite sides of said body comprising, a body portion, oppositely disposed laterally extending flanges formed on the upper and lower edges thereof, and a flange parallel with last-mentioned flange formed on the same side of said body intermediate the edges thereof, trays slidably mounted on the said flanges, and supporting means mounted on said trays for a purpose specified.
In testimony whereof, I allix my si gnature hereto.
LOUIS J. GONYEA.
