CHARLES L. rorE, or KIMBEELY, IDAHO.
i ANECK-Yoan ATTACHMENT.
remesa To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES L. Porn, a
citizen of Canada, residing at Kimberly,in
the county of Twin Falls and State of Idaho, have invented a new and useful Neck-Yoke Attachment, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention appertams to neck yokes, and aims to provide a novel and 1mproved device for attaching a neck yoke to the tongue or pole of a wagon or other vehicle, permitting the yoke to be readily review, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the inventionfherein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention is illustrated'in the accompanying drawing, wherein: y
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the attachment. 4
Fig. Q'is a fragmental-bottom view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a front end view.
The attachment embodies a sleeve or boot 1 constructed of suitable metal and adapted to be slipped onto the end portion of the vehicle tongue or pole 2, which is preferably provided with a stop lug 3 for the abutment of the rear end of the sleeve thereagainst, the forward end of the sleeve being closed. The forward end of the sleeve is provided with an enlarged rounded portion l provid ing a bearing for the rolling contact of the intermediate portion of the neck yoke 5 thereon.
In order to attach the neck yoke to .the

sleeve, the sleeve is provided with an upper apertured lug 6 near its forward end to which one end of a short chain or flexible element 7 is anchored, the other end of said chain or flexible element being attached in any suitable manner to the upper portion of the yoke 5 to prevent the forward movement of the yoke off of the sleeve or rounded portion 4 thereof. Thechain 7 not only connects the yoke with the sleeve in rear of the yoke, but also prevents the reins from catching between said yoke and sleeve.
The forward end of the sleeve is provided with a forwardly projecting arcuate lip 8 of arched form, having its widest portion at the top, and said lip diminishes in width toward its ends, the edges of the lip extending rearwardly and downwardly and vanishing into the end of the sleeve Ll at the lower portion thereof. This prevents the lines or reins catching under the lip 8, since when they are pulled, they will be readily deflected forwardly out of engagement with the lip. The upper portion of the lip is provided with a Vpair of laterally spaced apertures 9, and
there is a web or rib 10 between said apertures connecting the intermediate portion of the lip and forward end of the sleeve 1, said i web being` disposed vertically between the side portions of the lip, and strengthening the latter. Chain links i 11 are engaged through the apertures 9 and around the loop portions of the lip S formed by said apertures, and the links 11 are connected by eye bolts 12` or other attaching elements to the lower portion ofthe yoke 5. The links 11 in being engaged with the lip 8, will prevent the reins from catching thereunder, and when the yoke is pulled rearwardly by the backing ofthe draft animals, the links 11 will transmit the pull ,to the lip 8 and sleeve 1 for backing the vehicle.v The links 11 also prevent the yoke from swinging too much out of its normal position, since said links diverge upwardly to the yoke to which their upper ends are attached.
The sleeve 1 is preferably provided with openings or slots 13 to lighten the saine, and to prevent dirt and trash from accumulating therein.
The sleeve or boot 1 can be readily slipped onto the tongue when the animals are hitched to the wagon, but cannot become accidentally detached from the tongue, while the animals arelhitched up, although when the animals Y are unhitched the sleeve can be readily with- Y Y I-Iaving thus described the invention what ljing an outstanding arched lip provided with a pair of apertures in its upperportion, a web connecting` said lip and forward end of the sleeve and located between said apertures, a neck yoke resting on the sleeve, links engaging said lip in said apertures and attached 'to the yoke, and nieans connecting the l5 yoke with the sleeve in rear of the yoke.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES L. POPE.
