This invention relates to nnprovements in ironing boards and has special reference to a folding portable board adapted to be used in connection with a support such as a table,

shelf or the like, said board being made w-holly of meta The principal objects of our lnventlon are simplicity and practicab1lity.

Other objects and advantages will, however, appear in the further description of the invention.

1 represents a suitable stationary support such as the top of a table or the like. 0 2 and 3 represent the two sections of the ironing board which are pivotally united as at 4 or in any desired manner, portions of the side flanges 5 of the sections being made to overlap each other forming su1table means for the pivotal connection. The section 2 of the ironing board is preferably much shorter than the section 3 and hasrigldly fixed upon the central under face thereof a bracket 6 upon which is pivotally mounted at 7 a substantially L-shaped extension 8, the free end of which normally extends parallel wlth the body of the section 2. The extreme free end of the L-shaped bracket 8 has formed thereupon a hub member 9 which is internally screw threaded and in which is mounted the similarly threaded stem 10 operated by a suitable fixed thumb handle 11. The opposite end of the stem 10 carries a suitable clamping head 12 as is common in such devices, and whereby the sectlon 2 of the ironing board may be securely fastened to the table top 1 or other similar support. The

A bifurcated ear 13 is formed integral with the bracket 6 and to one side of the center thereof and extends downwardly toward the forward end 3 of the ironing board. Into this car is pivotally mounted a tubular brace rod 14: carrying upon its extreme outer end a coupling 15 having a set screw 16 therein and pivotally carrying as at 17, one end of the toggled brace 18,- the opposite end of which brace is pivotally attached 31s at 19 to the bifurcated leg 20. A rod 21 extends from within the tubular member 14: which it is telescopically carried and is attached as at 22 to a suitable cross brace 23 intermediate of the two portions of the bifurcated leg 20. The set screw 16 in the coupling 15 is for the purpose of'securely holding the rod 21 in any desired longitudinal position in relation to the rod 14.

The upper end or body portion of the leg 20 is made hollow and carries telescopically therein an extension rod 24 held in any desired position within the leg 20 by means of a suitable set screw 25. The free end of the ironing board is designed to rest squarely upon the extension 24 of the leg 20 and form a suitable and substantial support for the end of the ironing board. The edges 5 of the ironing board are turned downwardly and inwardly forming a curved flange upon the sides and outer endthereof as clearly seen in Figs. 2 and 3. While the ironing board may be used without a covering of any sort, we prefer to employ and illustrate a fabric covering 26 which is made considerably wider than the ironing board with a view of folding the edges up in behind the flanges 5 and there securing same. To hold this covering in place, we provide a pair of parallel flat bars 27 which are united by two pairs of toggle levers 28 and 29 and which provide convenient contracting the bars in respect to each other as is obvious. By. this means, when the cover is placed over the ironing board the bars 27 may be placed in contact with the edges of the covering and by forcing same against the under side, of the ironing board and expanding the bars by means of the toggle levers 28 and 29, the edges of the cover will be pinched in behind the flanges 5 means for expanding or and one which may be readily and quickly adjusted to a suitable support for the purpose intended. It is to be understood that there are minor changes and modification in the construction disclosed which may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Having thusdescrlbed our invention what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. An ironing board comprising in combination a two-part board, a foldable clamping member fixed to the under side of one of the parts of the board for attaching same to a suitable support, a telescopic bifurcated leg for supporting the opposlte end of the board and a foldable telescopic brace uniting the leg and the clamping member.

2. The combination with an ironing board of the character described, of a bracket fixed to the under side of the board and adjacent one end thereof, a clamping member pivotally carried b the bracket, whereby one end of the boar may be attached to a suitable support, a vertlcally adjustable bifurcated leg adapted to support the opposite end of the board, an adjustable telescopic brace extending from adjacent the feet of the leg to the bracket and a toggle brace 'pivotally attached both to the first mentioned brace and to the leg substantially as and for the purpose descri ed.
