To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, TBA A. .MANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plumbing- Bowl Fixtures, of which the following is a specification.
1e invention re at 0 un '1 i Tl 1 es t l ibmg bon fixtures such as those of closets, sinks, lavatories, and the like, and particularly to wall bowls and the method of supporting them from the piping in the wall or partition against which the bowl is applied. The invention has for its primary objects; the provision of a construction with an inclined outlet sleeve or coupling in which improved means are employed for securing an adjustable sealing joint between the sleeve and the surrounding bowl; the provision in a device of the character specified of improved means for securing the bowl against movement longitudinally of the inclined sleeve; the provision of improved means for securing a bearing support between the wall of the outletpassage of the bowl and the inclined coupling; the provision of an arrangement whereby the supply valve or valves and their box are supported on the piping and readily accessible for repair; and in general the provision of a simplified bowl supporting means of great rigidity and capable of ready adjustment. Certain embodiments of the invention are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in section, showing the application of my invention to a lavatory, Fig. 2 is a section on the line IIII of Fig. 1, Fig. 3 is a face View of the valve box and its supporting means, F ig. l is a partial side elevation and partial section through a modified construction, Fig. 5 is a plan view of a clamp of slightly different type from that shown in Fig. 4, Fig. 6 is a side elevation partly in section, of a modification showing the application of the invention to a closet, and Fig. 7 is a plan view of means for connecting the bowl to the piping in the wall, the bowl itself being removed.
Referring first to the construction of Figs. 1, 2, and 3, l is a lavatory bowl which may be of any approved type; 2 is the outlet stopper operated fromthe handle 3; 4 is the upwardly inclined outlet passage leading from the device; 5 is the upright outlet piping located in the wall or partition; 6 is a box carrying the inlet valve 7 which is controlled by the handle 8; and 9 is the spigot leading from the valve 7 into the bowl.
Connected with the T 10 forming a part of the outlet piping is a downwardlyinclined coupling 11, such coupling extending to a point adjacent the lower end of the passage i and abutting at its lower end against the shoulder 12. The coupling 11 fits loosely in the outlet piping 4, and a tight joint is secured by the use of a compressible gasket 13 which surrounds the coupling. In order to hold the gasket against downward movement with respect to the coupling a collar 14 is screw threaded upon the end of the coupling, thus providing a shoulder against which the gasket contacts.
The compressing of the gasket 13 in order to secure a tight joint is accomplished by means of a sleeve 15 which telescopes over the coupling 11 and engages at its front edge with the gasket 13. This sleeve is provided with a flange 16 and through perforations in this flange are threaded the securing bolts 17 which perform the double function of adjusting the sleeve 15 and of supporting the bowl. The bolts 17 extend through flanges 18 forming a part of the bowl structure, and are provided at their ends with holding nuts 19. The other ends of the bolts 17 pass of the bolts 17 which carry the nuts are pro- 7 vided with longitudinal slots and the nuts themselves are similarly slotted to receive keys 21. When these keys are in the position indicated in Fig. 2, and the nuts 19 are turned, the bolts 17 turn with the nuts, and the sleeve 15 is adjusted forwardly to compress the gasket 18. On the other hand when it is desired to adjust the position of the bowl with respect to the wall, without operating the sleeve 15, the keys 21 are removedfrom vposition, and on screwing up the nuts19 the bowl is adjusted toward the yoke 20 without producing any change in the relative position of the yoke 20 and the sleeve 15. This last operation of course tends to tighten the gasket 13, but this can be compensated for if desired, before the justed and tightened without inconvenience and without the necessity of removing the bowl from the wall. 7 A further advantage results from the fact that the gasket 13 provides a yielding support taking the downward thrust due to theweight of the bowl. The support is thus secured at/a maximum distance from the wall, relieving thewall itself of the thrust of the bowl. v
v Movement of the'upper portion of the bowl away fl'om thewa'll is resisted by means of a'pair of tension rods 22 which extend through 'fiange's formed "upon the rear side or the bowl and secured in place by means of the nuts-23 and 2 1. The "other ends of these tension rods"22 extend through forks 25 (Fig. 3) in the end of the arm'2G, sucharm being carried by a half collar '27 (Fig. 1) which partially surrounds thePlPB 5. This half collar 27 is bolted to another halt'collar28, thus providing a supporting clamp upon the pipe5. The ends of the rods 22 are secured in-the forks 25 by; means of the squared" nuts 29'slotted1toffit' slidably but non-rotatably in the said forks. By
these means" the rods 22 can be adjusted in and out as (:lesi'red, andfthe position or the passage at permits the bowl to swing around the gasket as a 'fulc'rum when the tension rods'are adjusted. Mounted above the rods'22 is the valve box '30, such box being secured in position by means of the brackets 31 bolted to the half collar 27, and carried by the same bolts;
which hold the two parts of the clamp together. The box'30 can be arranged'to hold any desired number of valves 7, the box as indicated in Fig. 3 being designed to hold three valves, thesterns whereof pass through I theholes31jin the lid of the boxjfThe lid is provided with perforations 32 to take plaster when "so desired, but-a solid covering 33 can be used upon this lid, being held in position withthe lid itself by means of the screws 34.

Through these sleeves 35 extend the threaded ends 36 of the yoke 20, such threaded endscarrying the nuts 19. Threaded upon the adjusting sleeves35 are the adjusting nuts 37, which nuts when once screwed into theposition illustrated in Fig. 4 are non-rotatable with respect to the sleeve ltwillbe seen that when nuts 19 are loosenedthe nuts'37 can be turned, thus n'ioving the sleeve 35 and adjusting the sleeve 15 in and out. When it is desired to adjust the position or the bowl with respect to the wall the nuts 19are' operated.
In Fig. 5 a clamp for the piping 5"is illustrated, which clamp consists of two parts 39-and' 1Obolted together over the pipe and each provided with a forked arm, 1-1 and a2. Thisclamp' may very conveniently be used when there arebowls'on'opposite sides of the same partition, the one clamp thus serving to carry the'tensio'n rods 22 from each bowl.
In Figs-6 and 7 a modified construction is illustrated, such modified construction being particularly applicable to use in cases where the bowl is a closet bowl. In thisflOO construction the bowl l is provided with an upwardly -di1'ected outlet. passage .leading to the piping 5 and airinc'line'd con pling 11 is employed through which an annular flushing jet is admitted via the passagee3. The operation of adjusting the sleeve 15 and the bowl is therefore precisely the same as in theapparatus of Figs. 1 and 2. Any sag in the bowl may be taken up by means of the tension connection 46, such connection performing the function of the tension connection 22 in the construction ofFig. 1. In this construction the gasket 13 takes the main portion oi the weight of the bowl and acts as a fulcrum about which the bowl moves when the tension connections 4:6 are operated to level the bowl. The plate it is thus securely supported againstmovement. In this and the other types of construction the yoke 20 extending around the vertical piping, tends to relieve the strain on the coupling.
l/Vhat I claim is:
1. In combination, a wall bowl having an upwardly inclined outlet passage, upright piping in the wall, an inclined coupling lying in said passage, and connected with the said piping, a gasket between the wall of the inclined outlet passage and the exterior of the coupling, stop means on the coupling, a sleeve lying between the coupling and the Wall 01 the outlet passage and slidable longitudinally of the coupling and adapted to press the gasket against the said stop means, and screw means operable from the front of the bowl for adjusting the sleeve.
2. In combination, a wall bowl having an upwardly inclined outlet passage, upright piping in the wall, an inclined coupling lying in the said passage and connected with the said piping and having a shoulder at: its lower end, a gasket engaging said shoulder, a member surrounding the coupling slidable longitudinally thereof and engaging the gasket, and screw means operable from the front of the bowl for adjusting the sleeve to compress the gasket.
3. In combination, a wall bowl having an upwardly inclined outlet passage, upright piping in the wall, an inclined coupling lying in the said passage and connected with the said piping, a yoke fitting around the piping. screw connections between the yoke and bowl, a gasket between the wall of the outlet passage and the coupling, a member fitting slidably around the coupling and engaging the gasket, and means whereby the said member is moved along the coupling by the said screw connections.

In combination, a wall bowl having an upwardly inclined outlet passage, upright piping in the wall, an inclined coupling lying in the said passage and connected with the said piping, a gasket between the wall of the inclined outlet passage and the exterior of the coupling and adjacent the lower end of the coupling, means adjustable longitudinally of the coupling to tighten the gasket, and a tension connection between the piping and the bowl above the coupling.
7. In combination, a wall bowl having an upwardly inclined outlet passage, upright piping in the wall, an inclined coupling ly ing in the said passage and connected with the said piping and having a bearing contact adjacent its lower end with the bowl, and an adjustable tension connection between the piping and the bowl above the said coupling.

In combination in a bowl fixture having an upwardly inclined outl t passage leading from the lower portion of the bowl fixture, a metal outlet coupling lying in the outlet passage, a gasket around the coupling and lying below the water level in the fixture, means fitting over the coupling and slidable longitudinally thereof for tightening the gasket, and screw means operable from the front of the bowl for adjusting the said means.
9. In combination, a wall bowl having an upwardly inclined outlet passage, upright piping in the wall, an inclined supporting coupling lying in said passage and connected ith said upright piping, and a yoke extending around the vertical piping and having its ends connected to the bowl, the said ends extending longitudinally of the couling.

right piping in the wall, a supporting coupling fitting loosely in said passage, and carried by the vertical piping, and having its lower end engaging the walls of the outlet passage and actin as a fulcrum support of the bowl, and an adjustable tension connection between the upright piping and the bowl above the coupling for swinging the bowl. about the said lower end of the coupling.

In combination, a wall bowl having an upwardly inclined outlet passage, upright piping in the wall, a supporting coupling fitting loosely in said passage, and carried by the vertical piping, and having a gasket on its lower end engaging the walls of the outlet passage and acting as a fulcrum support of the bowl, and an adjustable tension connection between the upright piping and the bowl above the coupling for swinging coupling.
12. In combination, a wall bowl having an upwardly inclined outlet passage, upright piping in the wall, a supporting coupling fitting loosely in said passage, and carried by the vertical piping, and havinga gasket on its lower end engaging the walls subscribed witnesses.
