STOVE.
igeaafaea Specication of Letters'atcnt.
Patented heb. 5, 191.
`application led January 11, 411917. Serial No. 141,774.
ycitizen ci? the United States, residing at Houston, in the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful improvements in `Stoves, of which :the following' is a speciication.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in stoves.
Theobject of the invention is to provide a stove ot' the character described which is provided with a novel form of combustion chamber and equipped with an oil burner which is contained in said chamber and adapted to utilize oil asa fuel. The rform of stove shown is designed for heating pur 'posesonly although. the stove may also be designed for cooking purposes if desired.
-With the above and other objects in View the invention has "particular relation to certain novel features of construction, arrangement of parts and usean eXampleof which is given in this speciiication `and illustrated inthe accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure 1V isa verticals'ectional v'view 'ofthe stove.
Fig. 2 shows a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1, and
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view of the burner taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings wherein like numerals of reference designate similar parts in each of the figures, the numeral 1 refers to the body or outer shell of the stove which is composed usually of sheet metal and may be formed vinto any particular design desired; the numeral 2 indicates the combustion chamber formed by the upper and lower transverse partitions 3 and 4 respectively, and the front wall 5. These transverse partitions extend from one side of the stove to the other, are arranged parallel and spaced a suiiicient distance apart to form the combustion chamber and also extend from the rear wall of the stove forwardly, and are bolted or otherwise secured at 'their margins to the corresponding side walls and rear wall of the stove body 1. The vertical partition extends from side to side of the Ystove and is secured at its upper and lower margins, respectivelv. to the corresponding partitions 3 and 4;. The front wall of the stove is provided with a circular opening which is normallyy closed by the circular door 6 having the inwardly projecting annular flange 7 which ts closely within the door opening. rlhe front wall '5 of `thecombustion chamber has also a circular "opening normally closed by the door '8 having the annular inwardly projecting flange 9 which lits closely within said open- Ling. The door 8 has an air inlet 10 `which "extends out through a central opening `in the door 6 and which 1s closely surrounded by the sleeve 11 integral with and projectying inwardly fromsaid last mentioned door and the passage ot air through this inlet `into the combustion chamber is controlled by means ott the ventilator 12 ot any well known form.
Supported by the partition L1, within the combustion chamber is the pan l2 which is preferably lined with asbestos, and alined over which is the burner nozzle 13. A 'fuel tank le is fixed above the stove and leading trom it is th'efuel pipe 15 which is controlled by the cutoff valve 16 by means of which 'theltlow of tuel through the pipe. may be regulated or entirely cut on". This pipe 15 enters the stove through "the side jof the shell, passing transversely through the combustion chamber and is formed into a burner consisting of the parallel sections 17, 17', the tree end of the latter of which is turned downwardly and formed into the nozzle 13 extending underneath and parallel to the said sections 17, 17 said nozzle being pro vided with discharge outlets 18, 18, to per mit the escape oir' the fuel therefrom. rlFhe burner supports suitable gas targets 19, 19, which are arcuate in cross section and are arranged above the discharge openings 18 so as to deflect the blaze and protect the upper partition 3 and distribute the heat throughout the combustion chamber. A primer pipe 20 is fixed to the partition 3 and extends up through the top of the stove and its upper end is closed by means of the door 21. When it is desired to start a tire, a quantity of fuel such as crude oil or kerosene is poured through the primer pipe 20 and caught by the pan 12. This fuel is then ignited and the valve 16 opened to admit :tuel from the tank 14:. The fire from the pan will ignite the fuel which is discharged from the pipe 15 through the discharge outlets 18 and the blaze therefrom will be deleeted from the gas targets 19, 19. At the same time, the burner sections 17, 17 will be heated by the blaze and the fuel therein converted into gas which will thereafter escape through the discharge outlets 18, 18,
and be ignited in the combustion chamber 'flue opening 22, provided inthe rear part of the partition 4 and thence forwardly under and up in frontV of the combustion chamber and then passes out through the stove pipe-23. yThe heated air will thus be distributed all around the walls of the stove causing the stove to radiate heat uniformly from all sides.
A needle valve 16 is provided to regulate the flow of fuel to the burner, the cut olf valve 16 being utilized chieliy to entirely Cut off the fuel when the stove is not in use.
W hat l claim is:
'1.` A sheet metal stove comprising top and bottom'and front and rear walls, a combustion chamber within said stove comprising a top and bottom wall and a front wall, the walls of said combustion chamber extending from side to side of said stove and spaced respectively from the front and top and bottom -walls thereof, a flue in the top wall of the stove at the rear thereof, a transverse airinlet extending throughthe front walls of the stove and combustion chamber, a
' burner in said combustion chamber ar- 'Vranged 1nA the'path of air entering said inlet,
and an air outlet in the bottom wall of the combustion chamber at the rear thereof whereby air entering said inlet flows across said burner and out said outlet and around the exterior of the combustion chamber.
2. A sheet metal stove comprising top and bottom and front and rear walls, a combustion chamber within said stove comprising a top and bottom wall and a front wall, the walls of said combustion chamber extending from side to side of said stove and spaced respectively from the front land top and bottom walls thereof, a flue in the top wall of the stove at the rear thereof, a transverse air inlet extending through the front walls of the stove and combustion chamber, a burner in said combustion chamber comprising a drip pan, a nozzle above said pan and deiector plates above said nozzle arranged in the path of air entering said inlet, and an air outlet in the bottom wall of the combustion chamber at the rear thereof whereby air entering said inlet flows across said burner and out said outlet and around the exterior of the combustion chamber.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
