the ends or the cores and the electromagnets 11. The binding post is mounted upon the housing 1, as shown in Fig. el, although it is insulated therefrom, as shown at 16. At the inner end of this binding post 15 there is carried a spring tongue 17 which is held in a set position by means of the set screw 18. The binding post 19 is grounded upon the housing 1, and these posts 15 and 19 are adapted to be supplied with an electric current so that the current will pass through the'housing 1 and wall 9 and as a consequence will energize the electromagnets 11. As these electromagnets are energized their magnetism will attract the armature lat against the tension of the spring tongue 17. It is obvious that in structures of this kind where swinging armatures are employed that as the armature is drawn in one direction by the magnetism of the electron'nignets the spring tongue will also be drawn in the same direction for a short distance. As the resistance of the spring tongue becomes greater, however, the spring tongue will finally spring back to its normal position, thus breaking the circuit, and as a consequence, the magnetism of the electromagncts will cease and the spring of the armature will again return the armature to its normal position.
The elongated guard 20 has a flat flange 21 formed thereon and this fiat flange 21 rests upon the forward end of the tube 6 and is retained in position by means of the screw 22. In this manner it will be seen that the guard will be held in a. fixed position upon the outer end of the tube and although this guardv is elongated it is substantially semicircular, in cross-section, as shown in Fig. l. This guard 20 has a slot 23 formed therein through which the set screw ll passes so as to carry the elongated flat bar 25. Since the guard is substantially semicircular in cross-section and the set screw passes through the slot23 formed therein it will be seen that the bar 25 may be moved in either of two directions and retained in a The blade 26 has a hollow clip '27 which is adapted to receive the blade 28. This clip 27 has the spring strips 29'secured thereto, the opposite ends of the spring clips being secured to the bar Thus, it will be seen that the clip 27 will. he eliicicntly supported although the spring strips 29 will permit the clip to be reciprocated when in operation. The pitman rod 30 which, of course, may be hollow it so desired, has its forward end secured by means of a screw 31 to the blade 26 of the clip 27. This pitman rod 30 extends through the bore 5 of the tube 6 and through the opening 4 of the housing 1 into the housing. The pitman rod further extends beyond the wall 9 and between the ma gnets 11 maeeeo so as to have its flat thin end 32 secured by rivets or screws 33, or, in fact, any suitable means, to the armature 1%. Therefore, as the armature is being swung the pitman rod 30 will be reciprocated and thus the clipQT will also be reciprocated, although it will be suspended by the spring strips 29. Upon the reciprocation of the clip '27 it will be seen that the blade 28 will also be reciprocated so as to quickly and etl'iciently share the face of the user. The sleeve 34.- is removably mounted upon the tube 6 and is retained in a set position by means of the set screw 35. This sleeve 3% has a guard plaztev 36 formed thereon, which extends in spaced relation with respect to the guard 20 and this guard plate 36 has guard fingers 36" formed upon its for and edge. Thus it will be seen. that the guard fingers project at all times beyond. the front edge of the blade, although the blade rests thereon, as shown in Figs. 3 and '4. As a consequence, the blade rides evenly upon the fingers, since the fingers slant so as to allow the blade to fit thereon notwithstanding the swinging action ofthe blade. The fingers are placed upon the face of the user,- allowing the heard to project between the fingers and be severed by the blade, although the fingers will protect the face of the user from injury. it will further be noted that the bar as may be adjusted by the set screws 26 and as a consequence the stroke of the blade may be limited in this manner.
When this device is in operation the electric current is supplied'to the electromagnets so that their energization will cause the armaturoto be swung or reciprocated and this action will in turn impart reciprocal movementto the pitman 30. The movement which is imparted to the pitman will in turn be imparted to the clip 37. thus causing the blade, to be reciprocatcd and as the blade is reciprocatcd it will move for a distance beyond the forward portions of the guard and the guard lilade so that when the blade. isresting upon the face of the user the blade 28 by rapidly reciprocating will come into engagement with l'llt! face of the user-and thus quickly and ellicicntly share the face of the user. It will further be noted that the adjustment of the bar 25 will increase or shorten the stroke of the blade, while the adjustment of the protcctor blade will allow a longer stroke. to bc impartmlto the face of the user when the device is in operation.
