a citizen of the,United States, residing in erally.
- A characteristic feature of my improved device is the combination of a bin or case having the form of a truncated pyramid, to serve as a container or retainer for the material to be baled, with means for pressing the material in the bin, tying the pressed material, and deliverin the finished or tied bale.
Further features of advantage reside in the peculiar details of construction involved in the combination, as will more fully appear from the following description and the ac-' companying drawings in illustration thereof,

-Asshown in the drawings, my invention comprises'a bin or receptacle provided with a rectangular bottom frame 1 composed of angleiron'having inwardly and downwardly es, a -bottom2 supported upon and fix'e to t e inwardly extended flanges of the angle irons, and, transversely extendstrips'3 fixed to the bottom 2 and separated by the spaces forming transverse tie wire'ways 4.

It will be understood that when tie end of the handle 22 is inserted longitudinally'in the rain 21, it is held in the desired osition by passing the pin 30 through the ole 21' at the top of the slot 23 and through a hole 32 in the handle, and looping the chain 31 over the pin 21" on the ram, the hooks 29 being disposed between the bearings 25.
It will be understood that the bin is adapted to be used a receptacle for bolding waste paper as it accumulates and when filled with loose paper can bereadily con solidated to substantially reduce its bulk by manually ramming it, usin the device for ramniiing that is shown in F ig. 3. When it is necessary as a result of the accumulation to pi the material, the handle 22 is passed transversely through the ram, the hook 26 is engaged with the flange 8, and the studs 27am engaged in the bearings 25, the handle being operated a lever to forcethe ram down. upon the material, where it is held under pressure by the yoke '28 through the engagement of one of its hooks 29 with the flange .15.
When the receptacle has been filled to the desired extent with the consolidated paper, bale wire 33 is-slipped through the grooves 4, by way of the bottoms of the slots 9 and 16, and is drawn over the consolidated mass through the respective slots,,the wire being drawn up and secured to form ties for the balein the usual manner.
The handle and ram having been detached from the bin, the handles 17 are turned down to withdraw the parts 20 from engagement with the front 11, whereupon the latter is drawn out at its top, so that the legs of its angles 13 registering with the ends 6 clear the flanges 10, and are lifted from 'en-' gagement with the clips 12. When the front 11 is thus removed, the ends 6, on account of being attached to the angles 1 for only half their lengths, spring-outwardly, and an opening is provided through which the bale may be removed,
Having described my invention, I claim:
1. A baler comprising a bin having an angle iron frame, a rectangular bottom sup portedthereon, cross pi es supported by sa idibottoln in separated r lation to provide ways, upwardly taperea ends having portions oithcir bottoms fixed to. said frame, arr upwardly tapered back having itsi bottom fixed to said frame and its en ds fixed to the ends aforesaid, and an upwardly tapered front having its bottom connected in movable relation with said frame and its ends connected with said ends first named, said back and front having slots therein registering with said ways.
2. A baler comprising a bin having the form of a truncated pyramid with outwardly turned flanges at the tops of oppositely disposed parts thereof, in combination with means engaged .by said flanges for pressing material contained in said bin.
3. A baler comprising a bin having a base, a movable side connected to said base and provided with 'end flanges, in combination with ends adapted to be engaged by said flanges, said ends having means coactin with flanges aforesaid for holding said side in assembled relation thereto.
1. A baler comprising a bin having the form of a truncated pyramid with ends provided with outwardly extending flanges and a detachable side provided with end flanges adapted for engaging the ends aforesaid and the flanges thereon.
5. A baler comprising a bin in combination with a ram and a lever having means for engaging it in fulcrum'ed relation to a side of said bin, means for engaging it in bearing relation with said ram, and a yoke for engaging it to a side ofsaid bin whereby said ram is adapted to be maintained under pressure.
6. A baler comprising a bin in combinaposed expansible sides for facilitating the removal of vcontents thereof.
8. A- baler comprising a bin having a bottom and expansible sides in combination with a side having movable connections-with said bottom and said expansible sides, said side ih'avin pansible si es and holding t em zag'ainst expansion.
