. `To enable others skilled in the art to make f and use my improvements I will proceed to describe `their construction and operationv l referring to the drawings in which the same letters indicate like parts in each ofthe figures.

The figure is `aiperspective view of the table and its case, partially extended.

. `the sides .B B and the ends C C so as to `form a casette contain the table when it is y closedup. `The top D of this case is represented in dotted lines broken off in the middle.` The upper half of the ends may be fastened tothe top or otherwise.

Theextension frame consists of the posts E Econnected by the `crossbars F F. Each pair of posts is connected to the next pair by t the folding rails G G-which are connected y together as `represented by the hinges lH H t so that by pulling the first crossbar F from ,the case, `the rails maybe drawn into the position to receive the top-I, and when the top is removed the rails may-be folded between the crossbars F` F as `represented at l t G G', so as to allow the posts E Eto come together as represented,` and the first joints of the folding rails maybe hinged `to the side B or otherwise; A cleat is fastenedto the inside of each end of the case, one ofthese cleat-s is represented "by dotted lines at J, and thereis a score K cut in each of thepoststo correspond with the cleats so that as the posts pass into the c'asefthe scores K pass onto the cleat J so thatif the case is taken up to be removed, t the posts and rails are carried with it.` The top` I is made of slats L L matched together as represented, that is the tongue on each 1i slat projects into the score in the next `through the series, ,and therefore the top is y finer when it is extended upon the rails as y the slats support each other so that one can not lbe depressed without depressing those y `next to it.

There are scores Q` Q in the top whichembrace the *folding-rails G G and hold them straight while the top remains upon them thereby saving thenecessity of any other device for that purpose. There is a slide R in the post A to prevent the roller N from turning when git is `pushed in so as to come in contact with `the arms S S. I contemplate that my eXtension tables may be made of such a length as may be desirable and that one person may draw out the frame and the top while one or two persons can stand by the case and lay the plates dishes &e as it is drawn out in far less time than it would take to distribute them over the table after `it is extended. Also that after a party have concluded a meal one person may wind up t-he top while one or two persons standing near the case removes the dishes, so as to clear the table in far less time and with comparatively lit tle labor towhat it would require to clear an ordinarytable of the same length, and when the top is wound up' and the posts pushed in, the lower part of the side B of the case which is hinged to the upper part and represented as turned up in the drawing, may belturned down so as to close the case and make a handsome piece of furniture.

What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The construction and arrangement of the top,`so as towind up in the case substantially as described; it being understood that I do not claim in general the device of the chain f slats to wind up, as that has already been used in window blinds and shutters; but only the peculiar purposes for which it is applied to the table top as above set forth.
