Hinged to one siii@ of the mouth 15 is a signal iiifik coiisigting of ii ring 24 ci'urying ii. pluto. glass closure Z5-mid a reflector 26 105 wherein is mounted ai-i ele/atrio bulb- 2?.
Spaced ears 28 are fixed centrali to the' back of the reflector 26 and pivote to these lamp and vsignal disk to assume the position shown in Figs. 3 and 4. In order to retract the rod 29 when the lamp is swung in toward the side of the -car there is provided a drum 33 which is fixed on the shaft 16 and connected to this drum is a flexible cord or strand 34 which passes through the hol low shaft 20 and around an idler pulley 35 mounted in the arm 14, the end of the strand being connected to an eye 36 formed on the inner en d of the rod 29. The arran ement of the parts is such that as the shat 16 is rotated the drum will be rotated and either pull upon the strand 34 or relax the tension on .the strand. If the tension be relaxed the spring 32 will, of course, push the rod 29 outward and cause the parts to assume the position shown in Fi 3. Meanwhile it must be remembered t at the action of the gearswil] have effected the swinging of the arm ,14 outward at right angles to the In order to provide for an electrical conlnecti'on between the wires 37 which lead from a battery (not shown) and the lamp 27 the wires 37 extend through a cup-shaped portion 38 of the bracket and thence through a bushing 39 which carries contact membci-s 40 each of which is connected to a respective wire 37; 4This bushing .39 is normally urged outward by means of a s ring 4l in the cup-shaped portion 38 an the contact members are arranged to engage similar contact members 42 mounted on the end of the horn opposite the lamp so that fromthese contact members 42 wires 43 may he led 1o the lamp 27. Thus when the parts are in the position shown in Fig. 1 the contact members 4f) and 42 would be separated and no cu ent will flowthrou h the lamp. Similarlyrf-whn the parts are n thepositionshgrwf4 .in Fig. 3 these contact members will bel "engaged and current will flow through the lamp. lt will be obvious that a suitable switch may he provided to disoon# neet the wires 37 from the battry so that in luy time current may not be c ibsum'ed but simplyr the signal ring 24, which is preferably white or some other conspicuor color, may be used for. the signal.
maman i In order to protect the device when in the osition shown in Figs. 1 and 2 a guard brac et 44 may be moun ed on thefbody 10 'as clearly shown in these figures.
and lamp are swung outward as also shown in said figure. Simultaneous with this operation the circuit is closed and the lamp lighted provided the switch between' the battery and wires 27 is closed. When the automobile has completed its turning movement a reverse movement of lthe finger grip will restore the parts to the position in Fig. 1.
There has thus been provided a simple and ellicient device of the kind described and for the purpose Aspecified.
It is obvious that many minor changes may be made in the form and construction of the invention without departing from the material principlesfthereof. It is not therefore desired to confine the invention to the exact form herein rshown and described but it is wishedf'to include all such as properly come within the scope claimed.
lHaving. ythus described the invention, what is claimed as new, iszbraclet, zii-shaft journaled in said bracket, a finger Jiece on the shaft. a. second shaft journaledI ,in the bracket, a hollow arm on the-second shaft7 a gear fixerlly connected to the hollow arm, a gear fixed on the first shaftand meshing with the first-mentioned Vgear, a drum fixed on the first shaft, a signalree
