Description

G. J. & C. F. KLOEPFER.
SIGNALING DEVlCE.
APPucAnou man JULY 26, 1918.
1,215,169. Patented Feb.6,1917
INVENTORS A TTORNE Y8 iram terminals in Contact members and 22 which are so arranged that when the arm 9 is swung into horizontal position the contact member 19 will engage the member 22, while the metallic tube 9 in which the hulb 1S screws will contactwith the contact member 22 and will interpose the bulb 18 in the circuit, which may be supplied with current through any suitable means, as for instance a battery or the like.
In operation, the signals 9, 1.7, and 18 normally occupy the position shown at the right of Fig. l. When the driver intends to turn to the left. for instance. he will grasp the handle 1-} of that signal at the left and will swing the said handle upwardly, and more the same inwardly to the inner end of the slot or passage. This movement Will swing the signal into the position shown at the left of Fig. 1, and the mere act oi? releasing the handle will lock the signal in opera tive position. The mirror on that side will give the driver a clear View of what is behind him, without the necessity of turning his head. llhen the turn has been made. the movement of the handle 14- is reversed, and the act of releasing the handle leeks the parts in. inoperative position. i i hen the driver intends to turn to the right. he will turn the signal at the right.
The improved signaling device is sim ie and inexpensive, and the movement of the i mates signal into either position requires but a ery short space oil time. it will be understood that a cut-out switch will be imposed in the circuit 21 to permit the bulb to be cut out of the circuit during daylight hours.
We claim A signaling device, comprising a substantially cylindrical casing", a tubular member s longitudinal slot for permittingthe passage of the handle and having an extension at each end thereof for engagement by the loan: dle when the same is released to lock the signal in operative and inoperative position, electric lighting apparatus mounted on the signal arm, and means controlled loy the swinging of the arm into operative and in operative position for controlling said light.
