Application filed August 8,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERBERT Fnoon, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, and a resident of Chapel-en-le-Frith,
'in the county of Derby, England, have ininsure smooth working. The object ofthe invention is to provide improved and simple means for retaining the interleaving in position between the leaves of the spring and preventing it from working out laterally.
According to this invention, I provide the interleaving with beaded or other enlarged edges which lie immediately outside of the edges of the leaves of the spring.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is an elevation of a laminated spring to which is applied a woven interleaving in ac- Y cordance with the invention, Fig. 2 a crossformed in any suitable way. For example, I may inclose wlre, string, thin cord or other section thereof, and Fig. 3 a part perspective view of the interleaving. Figs. 4 to 10 inclusive are part perspective views of modified forms of beaded-edged interleaving according to the invention.
Referring to the drawing, a, Figs. 1 and 2, is the interleaving arranged between the leaves 6 of the spring and provided with beaded or enlarged ed es 0 which lie immediately outside the sldes of the leaves.
The beaded or enlarged edges 0 may be suitable material 01 along the edges of the interleaving a either during the weaving of the latter, as in Fig. 3, or by. turning the edges a of the interleaving over the wires,- cords or the like d and securing them by sewing, as in Fig. 4:. Or I may make the interleaving sufficiently wide and fold or turn over the edges a thereof one or more times and secure the folded or turned over edges by sewing, as in Fig. 5, or otherwise suitably. Or, as shown in Fig. 6, the inter- Specification of Letters Patent.

leaving a may be woven with pockets e along its edges for the subsequent reception of wires, strings or other thickening means. Or I may sew along the edges a of the interleaving folded or doubled separate pieces of similar or other suitable fabric, or flat or round cord, braid or the like a as i Fig. "i'.
The beaded or enlarged edges may be applied to interleaving composed of thin plates or strips of metal or other suitable material. In such cases, the beaded or enlarged edges 0 may be integral with the interleaving a, as shown in Fig. 8, or be formed by narrow strips a of metal or other suitable material attached to the interleaving by rivets f, as in Fig. 9, or in other suitable fashion.
The beaded or enlarged edges 0 are preferably continuous though, if desired, they may be interrupted at intervals, as illus trated in Fig. 10.
It will be seen that whenthe interleaving a is arranged between the leaves I) of the spring, the beaded o'r enlarged edges a lying immediately outside the edges of the leaves, prevent lateral displacement of the interleaving and retain it in position.v Further, the beaded or enlarged edges give a neat appearance to the spring.
What I claim as mv invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. An interleaving for laminated springs provided at its edges with enlargements.
2. In a laminated spring, strips of interleaving arranged between-the leaves of the spring and provided with enlargements at their edges, which enlargements lie outside of the leaves and prevent lateral displace which enlargements lie outside of the leaves and prevent lateral displacement of the strips of interleaving.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
