Be it known that I, JnNNrn B. PARKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Albion, in the county7 of Calhoun and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements iu High-Chair Trays; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention. relates to high chair trays and its object is to provide a tray of this character in which all parts are readily accessible for thorough cleansingthereof and in which means are provided to retain a supplemental tray thereon which supplemental tray may be removed when desired.

A further object of the invention is to provide a high chair tray provided with side pieces adapted to act as flanges to receive the supplemental tray thereunder and which side pieces are spaced above the bottom of the tray by means of uprights so that when the supplemental tray is removed no crevices or grooves will be left in the tray proper in which food or dirt may accumulate.

With these and other general objects in view which will appear' from the description, my invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement'of parts as will be fully hereinafter described and claimed when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this application and in which:

In detail my invention comprises a fiat substantially rectangular tray having a base l provided with an outer guard wall 2 extending upright from the outer edge thereof and having parallel spaced upright spindles 3 disposed along its side edges spaced slightly inward therefrom, which spindles are adapted to act as supports for relatively wide Hat side pieces 4 disposed in parallel relation to the base l and spaced thereabove. These side pieces are secured at one end to the outer guard wall 2 and are rounded at their inner ends and extend in ward of the tray.

This tray in the construction described may be used as a unit and may be kept clean at all times as the side pieces 4 are maintained in spaced relation above the bottom of the tray a sufficient distance so that no crumbs of food or dirt may lodge between the pieces and base and owing to the spaced arrangement of the spindles 3 openworl-r sides are provided which add materially to the eiiicient cleansing of the tray as it will be practically impossible for any dirt to bccome lodged at the sides of the tray. lllith the majority of trays of this character it isfcustomary to use a supplemental tray for holding food and the like and accordingly I employ a supplemental tray 5 which is suitably formed of white enamel as it is most readily kept clean and which is provided with the usual upstanding sid-e edges 6 and beveled end edges 7. At its inner end the supplemental tray is Provided with a handle 8 so that when being applied the side edges 6 are inserted beneath the inwardly exten d* ing` portions of the side pieces 4 with the spindles 3 acting as guides for the sides ot the tray and the tray 5 slid over the base until contacting with the outer guard wall The Asupplemental tray will thus be held effectually on the main tray as the inwardly extending side pieces will prevent vertical displacement of the tray and inward moves ment of the tray is prevented by the body of the infant in the chair. The tray is removed by being slid inwardly of the chair and from beneath the side pieces 4.

I desire to emphasize strongly these essential features of my invention comprising` the vertically spaced side pieces 4 supported on the parallel spaced spindles 3 as this construction which has been described provides an openwork side for the main tray as well as a flange fonreceiving and guiding a supplemental tray thereon, which is at all times readily cleansed and in which it is practically impossible for any dirt to become lodged and thereby rendering the tray unsanitary.

While I have described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing certain details and materials entering into the construction and operation of my improved tray, I desire to be understood that I do not intend to limit myself specifically t0 these, but that any changes ma)7 be made in the same that Will fall within the scope of the invention claimed.

A tray for high Achairs comprising a fiat substantially rectangular base, a f raised guard Wall thereon, side pieces on said tray spaced upright'to support said side pieces in vertically spaced relation above the bottom oit' the tray, a supplemental tray to be slidably engaged on said base beneath the side pieces and guided betweensaid uprights.

2. A tray for high chairs comprising. a Hat substantially rectangular base, an upright guard. Wall at the outer edge thereof, parallel spaced spindles extending upright along the side edges of said base, side pieces supported on said spindles in vertical spaced relation above said base and extending inwardly from the sides thereof, said pieces heilig adapted toreceive the side edges of a supplemental tray thereunder when the same is slidably engaged with said base, the spindle members serving to guide said supplemental` tra)7 When being applied find providing open sides for said tray for efficient cleansing. i
