HELIEE ALEXANDRE VINCENT, OF LONDON, ENGLAND, ASSIGNOR, BY MESN E ASSGN- MENTS, T0 MIE-THERESE ELISABETH SALERNI, (NE COUCL) 0E SYDENHATJI` BILL, LONDON, ENGLAND.
SAFETY-RAZE.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that l, HELIER ALEXANDRE VINCENT, a Britain, residing at No. 20 Sydenham Hill, in the county of London, England, have 1nvented certain ,new and useful improvements in. a new or lmproved Safety-Razor, of which the following is a specification;
The present invention relates to a known construction of safety razor in which the blade is held in position against an overhanginglip orstop or r`lips or stops on a somewhat tray shaped'holder proper by pressure caused by the inner end of the handle when ity is screwed or tted into or secured to the said holder proper. According to the said invention the said pressure is exerted through the medium of a resilient member carried by the inner end 'of the handle whereby the razor blade is securedv in position without danger of injuring the blade and also with a kmaximum of simplicity of the parts thus facilitating cleanliness. Theaforesaid resilient membenis preferably a spring mounted pin working axially within the handle. lt is also preferred to provide means such as a stem on the back of the blade projecting through the rear of the holder proper for preventing side movement of the blade and when a stem as aforesaid is employed for this purpose it is preferably arranged to be operable by the thumb or linger whereby the razor blade may be turned up from the guard so that the razor blade and holder may be e'ectively washed without removing the blade from the holder.
The said invention is hereinafter more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawings which illustrate the preferred embodiment thereof.
Figure l of the .sa-id drawings is a side view of the device, Fig. 2 a rear View thereof,`Fig. 3 a Yfront view, Fig-4 a plan, Fig. 5 a section taken on the line A A Fig. 2, Fig. 6 a section# taken on the line B B Fig. 2 and Fig. 7 aside view showing the razor blade turned up from` he guard under thumb pressure as hereina ter described.
In the following description the parts of the said drawings are referred to by the letters marked thereon the same reference letters indicating the same or like partsin all the said figures.`
a' is the holder proper which at its fore end a 1s toothed to form the guard and at its Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed July 24, 1917. Serial No. 182,455.
rear part a2 is of curved shape terminating at a3 toward the fore part ina middle somewhat pointed overhanging part. is the .safety razor blade which has a stem b at the rear which when the said blade is in the holder a protrudes to the rear through a slot at therein. The guard a is slightly recessed on the side nearer the razor blade l) so ythat when the latter is in position it bears on the end portions of the guard only, leaving a slight space between the guard `and razor blade for almost the-whole of the length of the blade. c is the handle which is tubular and screwed into the holder proper a. The said handle has mounted within it at its inner end a pin d which is resiliently pressed outwardly by thehelical spring c `within the handle which 4spring is retained the holder af is of course prevented by thek position of the stem b in the slot at. By examining the accompanying drawings, it will be observed that the stop a3 is nearer the guard a than the part where the pin d bears on the razor'blade b. To securethe razor blade b in the holder/proper a the handle C being separate from the said holder it Vis only necessary to place the razor blade in the holder proper a so that its stem is inthe slot a4 and the edge of the razor blade approximately coincident with the fore edge of the guard a', then to screw the handle c into the holder proper a whereupon the pin d b ea'rs against the razor blade and'lifts it until it bears against the stop as against the resilience of the spring a. rll`he handle c having been screwed home the' razor blade b '1s securely gripped between the pin ci and the stop a3 and the relative positions hereinbefore explained of the said pin and stop are such that while the said handle o is being screwed home and the'pressure of the pin loo onl the razor blade bgradually increased thev )i said .blade 1s caused thereby automatically l and readily to assume the correct shaving angle and correct shaving position in "relaf tion to the guard a. By pressing. on e or linger the razor blade b may be lifted protruding part of the stem b bythe thumb from the guard a against the resilience of the spring c as illustrated 'in Fig. 7 whereby the holder proper a and razor blade b may otherIv means may be provided for the purpose such as lips at each side of the rear part ot' the holder proper a. This alternative is employed in cases where the razor blade is not provided with a stem as here v inbefore described.
The invention is not only applicable to devices in which the handle is screwed into 'the razor holder proper but is applicable to devices in which the handle is secured by other means as for example a bayonet joint..
What I claim and desire to secure byJLetters Patent of the United States is l 1. A safety razor com rising a holder for the razor blade, an over anging stop thereon, a handle and a resilient member carried by the inner ena of the said handle which bears against the inner surface of the blade at a part to the rear of the said stop to ref handle is in place bearing on the inner surface of the blade at apart `to the rear of the said stop to resiliently press a part of the outer surface of the blade, nearer the edge, against the said stop.
3. A safety razor comprising a holdcr for the razor blade, an overhanging stop thereon, a handle the inner end of which screws into the said holder proper, a resilient me'nber carried by the inner end of the said handle between which and the said stop Vthe razor blade is held in position by the holder proper, a stem on the back of the razor blade and an aperture in the rear of the said holder to receive said stem and allow the' razor blade to be tilted on the said stop and its edge part lifted from the guard, for the purpose set forth.I
