To all fw/Lom it may concern Be it known that I, RUooLrIr H. GLAD- wILL, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Ada, in the county of Pontotoc land 5 State of Oklahoma, have invented a new and Im roved Check-Indorsing Machine, of which tlie following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to a means of mecha-nically indorsing checks, drafts, memoranda, and the like, hereinafter referred to as checks.

The stamp is .adapted thereby to be positioned variously along the roller to produce the. indorsement at the proper location on the check. As the stamp occupies a comparatively small portion of the roller surface I provide resilient dummies or filler blocks 42 having dove-tail ribs at the Aback thereof, the same as the stamp 38 to be received in the groove 41 between theresilient friction plates 40. Thus. the filler blocks may be placed one at each side of the stamp or if the position of the stamp requires it, both the filler blocks' may be placed at either side of the stamp, thereby steadying the roller and maintaining itV in proper relation to the ctiacting roller 32.

I wish to state in conclusion that although the illustrated examples constitute practical embodiments of my invention, I do not limit myself strictly to the mechanical details herein illustrated, since manifestly the same can be considerably varied without depar-P ture trom'the spirit of the invention as dei fined in the appended claims. y
Having thus described my invention I claim as' new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
y 1. An indorsing machine ofthe class dc y I scribed, comprising` rotary indorsin g means,v drive means therefor including a drive shaft extending laterally at a side of the machine,
:lamp means secured to the indorsing ma-v chine andy extending laterally therefrom at the. same side as the drive shaft, said-clamp means having a member to engage an adding 'machine along the side thereof-adjacent to the indorsing machine, the said member termnatingfin a lateral bend to engage the 'adding machine at the front, the clamp' 1.30
a transverse frame 100v means including also a member to range across the adding, machine at the back and terminating in a forwardly disposed member to engage the opposite side of the adding machine from the fi1st1nentioned member, the clamp means being adjustable to conform to adding machines of different sizes, and actuating meansl to turn the said drive shaft-by a movement of the crank arm of the adding machine when said clamp is in position on the adding machine and with the actuating means connected with the said crank arm.

An ndorsing machine ot the class described comprising rotary indorsing means, drive means therefor including a drive shaft extending laterally at a side of the machine, clamp means secured to the indorsing machine and extending laterally therefrom at the samel side as the drive shaft, said clamp means including upper and lower elements adapted to engage the adding machine, bearings for said shaft, said hearings being carried by the lower clamp means, and means to actuatc said shaft by the crank arm of the adding machine when the clamps are secured in position thereon. v

An indorsingg,r machineI of the class described, comprising rotary indorsing means, drive means therefor, including a drive shaftformed in sections, clutch elements on said shaft sections, the clutch elements havingr a single tooth engagement to permit a reverse movement of one relatively to the other through a complete revolution, and stop meansl to arrest the indorsiug means and prevent retrograde movement thereof, said stop means including a member turning with the indorsing l'neans, a spring `yieldable to the saidl member, and a second spring yieldable to a movement of said member in one direction acting to arrest reverse movement thereof, said member being adapted to be accommodated between the two springs.
