WIND OW-LOCK Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 8,1918.
Application filed May 28, 1917. Serial No. 171,499.
useful Improvements in lVindow-Locks, of
which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to window locks and has special referenceto a sash lock adapted for use in connection with the sash of weightless windows.
One important object of the invention is to improve the general construction of de--' vices of this character.
A second object of the invention is to pro-' vide an improved form of sash lock which can be readily thrown into or out of operatron.
With the c bove and other objects in view, as will be hereinafter apparent the invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and
I Figure 1 is an inside view of a portion of a window and frame showing a pair of the sash locks applied to the lower sash of the window.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged front view of one of the sash locks.
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a side view of a lock on the scale shown in Fig. 2. v
Fig. 5 is a' section on the line 5--5 of Fig. 2.
In the embodiment of the inventionherein illustrated there has been shown in the drawings a base plate 10 whereon is eccentrically pivoted a disk 11, the pivot ofthe disk being indicated at 12-and lying as shown above the horizontal line passing through the center of the disk;
"Below this diskis a pair of cars 13 and 14 in a housing 15 provided with'a slot 16, and slidably mounted in these ears is a plunger 17 having on its u per end an arcuate head 18 on which the disk rests. This head,
. lying flat against the base 10 prevents rotation of the plunger. Mounted on the plun:
ger is a pin 20 provided with a head 21. This pin passes through the slot '16 and its head forms a finger grip. In order to normally hold the disk in operative position a spring 22 surrounds the plunger between the 1 head and ear 13 and constantly urges the plunger upward.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the spring presses the plunger upward so that the disk acts as a cam. Under these; circumstances the window sash may be raised and when released from the hands of the operator its downward movement will be prevented by the cam action of the disk. However, if it be desired to lower the window it is simply necessary to depress the pins by gripping the finger pieces. if the window be slightly lifted the disks will drop on to their seats free from the side. ofthe window frame, with which they generally engage, and the window can be lowered at will. I
There has thus been provided a simple and eflicient device of the kind described and for the purpose specified.
Itis obvious that many minor changes may be made in the form and construction of the invention without departing from the material principles thereof. It is not therefore desired to confine the invention to the exact form herein shown and described but it is wished to include all such as properly Then cally pivoted on saidbase and adapted to engage against a portion of the side of a window frame, the center of said disk being below its pivot 'point, a plunger bearing against the underside of said disk, a spring arranged to urge the plunger yieldably upward and thereby lift the disk, and means to permit holding of the plunger in its lowered position whereby to permit dropping of'the disk out of contact with the said frame portion.
2. In combination, a disk eccentrically pivoted on said base and adapted to engage against a portion of the side of a window frame,,the center of said disk being below105.-
the pivotal point thereof, a pair of ea s on I said base below said disk, a housing c0verof the pin, and a spring surrounding the ing the ears and having a vertically clisplunger and urging it upward. posed slot therein, a plunger slidably mounted in said ears and having an ercua te head on which said disk rests, a heeded pin car ried by the sleeve and projecting through the slot, :1 finger grip fixed below the head PETER ZIELINSKI. Witnesses JOSEPH Smoesm, JOHN RUTKOWSKI.
in testimony whereof I afilx my signature.
