This invention relates to furniture and has special reference to a rocking chair provided with a resilient cushion for the rockers. g

One important object of the invention is to improve and simplify the general con-'v ment being resisted by the resiliency of the struction of devices of this character.

A second important object of the inven tion is to provide a device of this character wherein a. spring metal channel will be used in connection with the rocker of, a chair, the arrangement ofthe parts being such that a high degree of cushioning iseflected.

A third important object of the invention is to provide a device of. this description which may be applied to any rocking chair of the ordinary form in a very simple manner.

- With the above and other objects in view,

as will be hereinafter apparent-the invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and specifically claimed.

In carrying out the objects of this invention there is provided a U-shaped strip 10- of spring metal which has flaring sides 11. This strip of metal is of suflicient length to extend from one end of a rocker R to the other and is entirely surrounded by' an elastic covering element 12, preferably india rubber or the like, as clearly shown in Fig. upward from the strip 11 are a series 0 integral stems 13 threaded at their upper ends as indicated at 14. be. obvious that different widths of rockers maybe wedged in this member in this way the rockers being held in position by the .nuts 17. Now, when weight is applied to the chair the rocker will slide downward to a certain small extent the downward movespring strip. Moreover, it will be noted that this downward movement is permitted by the sliding of the stems through the rocker. When the weight is removed thenthe contraction of the side edges of the cushioning member will force the rocker .upward, the angle of the sides being always suflicient for this purpose.

There has thus been provided a simple] and efficient device of the kind described and for the'purpose specified.

It is obvious that many minor changes may be made in the form and construction of the invention without departing from the material principles thereof: It is not therefore desired to confine the invention to theexact form herein shown and described but properly it is wished to include all such as come. within the scope claimed.
