Be it known t at I, ANTHONY WALTER Boncrn, a subject of the Emperor of Austria, now residing at Rochester, New York, have invented an Improvement in -Treadle and Lower-Door Operating Mechanism, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to foot-power player-pianos and the like, and pertains more articularly to apparatus for opening and c osing a door in the bottom of the instrument throu h which the treadles are moved into ancf out of operative position; the mechanism for this purpose being combined, if desired, with means for moving the pumping treadles into and out of operative position.

The objects of the invention will be partly obvious from the following specification and partly pointed out therein.

The invention may be readily understood by reference to one illustrative embodiment shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Fi ure 1 is a front elevation of playing trea es with a portion of the base of a player-piano or the like;

The treadles 7 7 are hinged to a treadle support 8 which may be provided with feet 9 preferably having rubber treads. The treadles are provided with pivoted thrust bars 10 by which they are connected with a pitman 11 for operating the pumps or feeder bellows which areunnecessary to be shown.

The treadle support 8 is secured to rocking arins15, 15, fixed to or conveniently made integral with coaxial shafts 16', 16 'ournaled in any suitable manner inside the ase of the pie er. The treadles are swung into and out o operative position upon the shafts 16; the operative position, 2'. 0., when the treadles are in position to be operated for pumping, being shown in Fig. 4 and the inoperative position, 2'. a, when the treadles are retracte into the base of the player, being shown'in Fig.'3.-"-

A single actuating means may beprovided for operatin the door and for moving the treadles from/file position shown in Fig. 3 to that shown in Fig. 4, and vice versa.
