Description

F. 0. BRANT.- DISPLAY FIGURE. APPLICATION FILED MAR 5, 1917 1,251,857. Patented Jan. 1,1918.
WITNESS.- INVENTOR- ATTORNEYS.
FRANK 0. 1331mm, OF SAN rnaucrsco,fcnrirr'onnra.
Dismay-sienna. v
To alltuh om it may concern,-
Be it known that I, FRANK city andcounty ofSan Francisco and State of "Cali fornia, have invented certain new. and useful Improvements n Display F1gures, of whlch the followlng s'a. 'SPGClfiCEL- tion.
In the display of models particularly of the type of lay 7 present custom is to employ models of a given sizefor each diflerent size of garment owing to and' wh'ich models are expensive the heads and hands and often the arms being in waX or china and-considerable investment in models is requiredtoproperly display a line of garments. A'model of'the corresponding size is necessary for a com? plete line of garments andto display a complete line are disposed of that sizeof model is temporarily laid aside.
The present invention relates to a laydisplay figure formed preferably of paper or wood-board or any other suitablefiat rigid material and whichis'c'apable of adjustment to the various sizes thus adaptlng the same to the display of garments of a wide range of sizes, one havmg the features painted thereon pr ferably by the commonly usedwith the expensive wax features now employed, the adjustment of the model to various poses enables garments of all types to be displayed, and the cost of construction of aform of this type is far below that of the form at present employed.
lVith the above mentioned and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel constructionand combination of parts hereinafter described, illustrated in the acoompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims hereto appended; it being'understood that'various changes in the form, propo t on, iz and min r details of construe O Bnniv'r, a citizen of theUnited States, residing at the apparel tothe'public on fig ures and particularly in window display, the

reference is directed to the accompanying drawings, wherein,
.Figure' 1 1s aviewinelevation of'the-pre' ferred embodiment of my: invention displaying a gown, and disclosing the support of the model.

ters of reference designate corresponding;
parts,-.1 indicates tlIBylOWGD bodyportion 10f a. lay figure. and 2 the upper bodyportion,
the two ,portlons, overlappingat thewaist line. as at. 3. The lowerportion carries the llmbs ,4 andfeetii wh ch; may be arranged n; any suitablev manner, the1hose and foot cove-1 ering therefor being preferably painted thereon, preferably bythe-commonly used air-brush method. On the upper body portion is formed an integral portion 6 on which is painted the head and face of the model, this being also accomplished by the air-brush method. Owing to the parts 1 and 2 being of flat material it is required that the features of the model be painted thereon inorder that the model'will present a lifelike appearance.
. The arms 7 are pivotallyconnected as at 8 v to the shoulders 9 and are capable of move ment at the shoulders to assume anydesired position, this construction enables arms of anysuitable pose to be attached to the upper body portion 2.
To properly support the'model a stand or support is employed, the same having a base 10 and a, vertical vstandard 11 slotted as at v '12, 13 and 14: and through which openings are adapted to pass fastening means 15, 16 f i and 17, the first two of which extend through the lower body portion 1. of the model, The means 17 'is preferably in the 1 form .of a bolt having a winged nut. 18 and saidbolt is adapted toproject through the 1 H 3 slotted lower ends-19 of braces 20 which are pivotally connected to the upper body'portion 2 through the pivotal connections 8 for 70, i -Figx'3 is a view inelcvation ofthe stand the arms, thus enabling the upper body por- 7 tion 2:to be retained in any adjusted posi- 'On the figure is draped the gown 21, the
bust and hip portions thereof being filled out as desired by the employment of paper or other padding for this purpose.
It is apparent that the adjustment of the height of the model may be readily accomplished to accommodate gowns of various lengths, the angle of rest of the upper body portion may be changed as desired as may the position of the arms, thus adapting the model to the display of gowns'of various sizes and lengths and also providing a model that is capable of being manufactured at little cost. i
Having thus described my invention what I clalm is j 1. A lay figure for the display of wearing apparel comprising a form' of flat material per and lower half members of a body supported by said standard, one of said half members overlapping the other at the waist portion of said figure, means'for detachably andadjustably securing the lower half body member to said standard'whereby the same i may be adjustedlineally thereof, and means for detachably and adjustably securing the 3 upper half body member to said support Copies of this patent maybe obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Washington, D. G.
whereby the same may be adjusted lineally and laterally of said support and said lower half member to enable the upper half body portion of said figure to assume'dilferentc slotted portionsjfor sustaining the figure in given positions, adjustable attaching members for detachably connecting thellower half member of the body to said standard, adjustable body braces pivoted at one end to the shoulder portions of the upper member of the body through the pivotal connections for the arm members, said braces being slotted at their inner end portions, and ad-V j ustable means extended through the vertical support and cooperating with the slotted ends 'of the body braces for detachably con necting the same to said support.
1 In testimony whereof Ihave signed my name to this specificationin thepresence of the subscribing witness.
