Description

PATENT QEEIOE.
FRANK w. JAY, or cANTON, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN LINE AND STRAP HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 125,136, dated April 2, 1872.
Specication of an Improved Line and Strap Holder, invented by FRANK NV. JAY, of (lanton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio.
My invention relates to the construction, combination, and arrangement of the parts to constitute a device for holding straps and lines by which horses and other like animals may be hitched 7 and confined.
To afford a general idea of the device, Iwill suggest here that it consists of `a frame provided with a cam formation, and swinging in another frame upon a hinge-rod, the latter or supporting-frame being fastened to apost, wall, beam, or the like support, and the whole may be cast of inet-al in two or three pieces.
The cam-holder may be swung out of the supporting-frame and in an opposite direction to the animal to be fastened, and the line or strap be inserted under the cam and over the bot-tom of that frame, and then, upon letting go the swinging frame, it will swing back by its own weight until its bottom or cam impinges upon the strap or line, and then the harder the animal inaypull the strap the tighter it will become.
Another marked feature in this device is that, by reason of a peculiar construction of the tops of the two fra-mes, the holder cannot be reversed in either direction. f
Referrin gto the aecompanyin g drawing, Figure-1 represents a side view of the upper part of a post with the device screwed down against the top end of the same. Fig. 2v represents a plan view ofthe same thing 5 Fig. 3, an elevation of the upper part of the post with the device secured orbolted against the side thereof. Figs. 4 and 5 are side and front views of the device itself; and. Fig. 6, a cross-section of the same.
A A Gr H H F F indicate the supporting.
frame, H H being anges for screw-holes; in addition toy such, holes may be cast in the bedplate G. C B B K K E E are the parts composing the swinging frame, and D is the hingerod, having bearings in standards AA, upon which it turns.
In Fig. l thearrow indicates the direction in which the strap P is inserted after the swinging frame B has been swung out in the same direction. After such insertion the bottom or cam portion of that frame which is provided with corrugations or ridges, as shown, will prevent the stra-p or line from slipping out when pulled against 'by the animal. If the animal should clasp the further end of the strap between his teet-h and pull it, he would only shorten his tether. The swing of the calnframe is limited by the top piece E and the shoulders F F so that it cannot be reversed. The frame may be cast in one piece,| and the cani clamp-rod in another, and the whole de- 1Bice made very strong, cheap, and servicea- Claim.
What I claim as my invention is- The hitching device herein described, consisting of the frame A G A, with projections H H and shoulders F, and the cam-clamp K B (l, having the lugs E, the whole arranged and operating as described, whereby the cam is prevented from being swung out of connection, as set forth.
As evidence of the foregoing, witness my hand this 10th day of October, 187 0.
FRANK W. JAY. Witnesses:
