Description

W. A. STOCKDALE.
PICTURE HANGER. APPLICATION FILED JAN. 29. 1917- Patented D60. 25, 1917.
attozyw 1 UNITED STATES raTENr OFFICE;
' WILLIAM'A; srooKnALE, orfoamnnineiazomo.
- morons-Hartman,
T0 allwhomz'tmay concern."
Be it known that 1,.WILL1AM A. STooK DALE, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Cambridge, in the county of Guernsey and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and 'useful Improvements in.
Picture-Hangers, of which the followingfis asp'ecification. r
The present in "ention relate to the class of cards, pictures, and sign exhibiting and has particular reference to new and useful improvements in picture hangers.
The primary object of my inventionisto provide a hanger which will securely support a picture or a display rack, and. which will always retain the picture, etc., in alevel,
position.
Another object of my invention is to provide a device of the class mentioned which is adapted to be secured to the wall without injuring or materially marring the same.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a picture hanger, that is so constructed, that the picture may readily be detached therefrom.
Other improvements and novel details in the construction and arrangement of the various parts of the apparatus will be brought out more in detail in the description to follow, which, for a clear understanding of the invention, should be considered in connection with the accompanying drawing, forming a part hereof, and wherein is disclosed, for the purpose of illustration, convenient and satisfactory embodiments of the invention. It is to be noted, in this connection, that minor changes in the construction and arrangement of the various part may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the principle of operation of the various parts.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention, showing the same attached to a wall;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, and
Fig. 3 is a sectional view of Fig. 2 on the line 3-3.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views thereof, 1 designates a wall and 2 the body of a substantially U-shaped frame member having laterally extending arms 3, the said arms having extensions 4 extending laterally of the arms provided sp ific i of Letters mat; r mmed Dec. 25, 1917. niiplicationnledJanuary'29,1e17, se iaiino. 145,19. l
with proj ections5 extending vertically therefrom, these projections being adapted to rehead-piecedesignated "7 provided with a slot" 8' intermediate theends and adjacent the'edge 9 thereof adaptedto be slid over a nail 10] or other? suitable securing means.
Thefree ends'o'f' the said head-piece are coiled as at l l and 12 adapting the same to receive the laterally extending arms 3" to re- 7 tain the same in ,the desired position, the
lateral extensions a limiting the downward movement of the U-shaped frame. The upper portion of the head-piece is bent laterally thereof as at 13 to provide reinforcing means for the said plate.
The base-plate of my invention comprises a sheetmetal plate looped intermediate its ends a at 14 and having the free ends thereof flexed as at 15. The said end portions are provided with an aperture centrally thereof to receive a. nail 16 or any common form of securing means.
The mode of attaching my picture frame is as follows; first the head-piece designated 7 is secured to the wall over the screw or nail 10 which previously to so attaching has been securely fastened to the U-shaped supporting frame. The next step is to rigidly secure the base-plate 15 by means of the screw 16. The picture hanger is now ready to receive the picture or other display rack. It is of course obviou that the extensions 5 are adapted to receive the eye hooks 6 which are attached in spaced relation to the picture frame 17.
From the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings it will be seen that I have provided a picture hanger in which the number of parts are few, the construction simple, the cost of pro- 1ducitlion small, and efficiency and operation v 1g Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. The combination with a picture frame having eye screws associated therewith in spaced relation, of a substantially U-shaped frame comprising, a body portion, arms extending laterally therefrom, an extension formed on said arms adjacent the ends bent laterally thereof,'projections formed 'on the free ends thereof extending vertically of said extensions, a sheet. metal head-piece,
having a slot formed therein intermediate rigidposition, I
2. The combination with a picture frame,
and a pairflof eye screws secured thereto inspaced relation, of a substantially U-shaped frame, a base. plate adapted to b'esecured to awall, oneend ofthe plate being ooiled about the U-shaped frame to hingedly secure the same tothe-Wall, projections formed on saidzframe adaptedfto engage said eye screws, and f means, associated with said U-shaped 2 frame to detachably secure the same toa Wall.
3. The combination Withia'picfture frame,
ceive the U -shaped frame member, and a base-plate flexed intermediate its ends and adapted to secure'the said U-shaped frame in a rigid position. I p
4. The combination with a picture frame, andfa pair of ;eye screws secured thereto in spaced relation, of a substantially U-shaped frame, a head-piece vadapted to be rigidly secured to a walland detachably associated th'er e'witliythe ends of the head-piece being coiled about said U-shaped frame, and a base: plate flexed intermediate its ends adapted to receive said 'U-shaped frame and V secure the same to the Wall.
In testimony vhereof, I affix my signature hereto.
WILLIAM A. STOCKDALE.
