IMPROVEMENT IN ROTARY SHOW-GASES.

SPECIFICATION.

I, THOMAS E. W001), of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented an Improved Rotary Folding-Leaved Show-(Jase, of which the following is a specification:

The present invention relates to an improvement in that class of-show-cases used to exhibit photographs, pictures, advertisements, &c.; and its nature consists in a two-part stand, the upper section of which .is made to rotate and, by means of suitable mechanism, to open I and shut the leaves of the show-case, as the whole is hereinafter fully described and shown.

In the drawing, Figure l is a perspective representation of my improved show-case with the glass removed 5 Fig. 2, a plan or top view of the upper end; Fig. 3, an inverted and enlarged view of the upper section of the bottom, showing the friction-wheels, &c.; Fig. 4, a vertical section taken through Fig. 2 on line as; Fig. 5, a perspective representation of one of the links of the endless chain and its leaf attachment.

A, Fig. 1, Drawing 1, and Figs. 3 and 4, Drawing 2, represents the base of the stand or show-case, and B, same figures, the upper rotating section of the base, which are made of wood or other suitable material, and ornamented with moldings to give a neat appearance. S S S S represent friction wheels, made of rubber or other suitable material, and fastened to the lower ends of shafts I, and arranged to run in a recess formed in the under side of the part B, as shown in Fig. 4, Drawing 2. The upper ends of the rods I pass through a plate, E, Figs. 1 and 4, said plate being held in position by means of a standard, D, supported by the rotating part B. The base A is provided with a stationary wheel, T, Figs. 3 and 4, around which the wheels S travel when the part B is rotated. The parts A B are held in place by means of a screw, a, or other suitable fastening. F F F F F represent four sections of folding leaves, which are made of card-board or other suitable material, and arranged to hold photographs, cards, or other articles to be exhibited. The upper and lower ends of these leaves are held together by means of endless chains or links .00 as, Fig. 2, the plate E being removed in this figure to show the construction more clearly. The peculiar form of the links is shown in Fig. 5, V V being the parts pivoted to the adjoininglinks, and H the socket-fastening, which clasps over the ends of the leaves and fastens by rivets. A rod, J, has its upper and lower ends fastened to the respective links of the endless chains, by means of which the leaves are held in an easy upright position to be folded from one section. ofleaves, F F F F F, to the other section. The means for thus folding the leaves when the part B is rotated, so as to turn the rods I, consist of starwheels L L L L, which are attached to rods I, and as they rotate the sharp prongs of the wheels strike into the notches as, Fig. 5, of the links, and fold four leaves at a time-one leaf of each section of leaves-consequently the article to be exhibited can be readily brought to view. The plate which supports the lower ends of rods I is shown at M, Figs. 3 and 4, the plate at Fig. 3 being swung from over the wheels S to show their position more clearly. In order to protect the leaves and cards, 8zc., thereon from dust and dirta globe or glass, I), is placed over them, as shown at Fig. 4, and, it further ornament is desired, a matting, a section of which is shown at N, Fig. 4, can be used.

By means of this arrangement and construction a large number of cards can be exhibited in a small space, while, at the same time, each picture or card can be distinctly and readily seen.

In the drawing five leaves are shown in each section; but more or less leaves can be used In a section, and there may be more or less section s.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secu're by Letters Patent, 1s-

1. One or more sections of leaves, F F F F F, combined with endless chains 00, wheels S. and two-part bottom or base A B, provided with stationary wheel T, when said parts are operated in conjunction with star-wheels L, as and for the purpose set forth.

2. The combination of the socket-links V V H with leaves F and star-wheels L, as set forth.

3. The combination of the glass b with leaves F, base or stand A B, wheels S T, rods I, star wheels L, endless chains 90 ac.
