YIn order to show to the recipient what choice may be made of variousarticles, the
book is provided with leaves'11, 12, containing lists 13 of articles, catalogue numbers 14, descriptive matter 15 and illustrations 16.
Each coupon has a designation 17 indi-y l-cating tothe dealer and seller the value of f the coupon. A simple form of designation may be a letter of the alphabet,`in which case the letter A Would designate the lowest value of coupon, say, twenty-five cents, the
' letter 'B Would indicate' a higher value, say,
fty cents, and so on.l
In Fig. 4i and associated figures there is shown a folder 18 inclosing a list 19 corresponding to the lists 11 to 16 of Fig. 3. The
folder is provided with a gummed flap 2O with gummed tabs 21 and that portion of the folder, which is divided into sections, visible on the face remote from the folder when the latter is sealed up for mailing, as shown in Figa?, has a space 22 forapostofiice address, and on the face of the saine section remote from the address space 22 there 1s printed a coupon 23 With lines 24 outliningl the coupon and indicating where the coupon is to be severed from the folder. 'This coupon may be normally covered by the price `list 19, which latter must be lifted from shown in Fig. 4 and associated figures, it is covering relation to the coupon after the folder is open in order to disclose the coupon. f
When it is desired to send a folder such as folded up into the form indicated in Fig. 7 and vsealed and addressed, and may then be sent by mail in the usual Way. The recipient has but to cut through the flap 20, whereupon the folder may be opened and the coupon filled out as described with respect to Fig. 2.
Still another arrangement is indicated in Figs. 8 to 11, Where a card 25 is formed along one edge with a returnfiap 26, and secured by stitching 27 or in any other suitable YWay to the card is a'nenvelop 28 in the'form of a folder, this envelop having a gummed flap 29 and gummed side flaps 30, and on the side of the body of the envelop indicated at 31 remote from the flap 29 are 1 and asso- Ycontinuati ons 32 uponwhich may beV printed a Y listYV of articles and description thereof similar `to the arrangement shown in Fig. 3.
The envelop 28 has an address receiving portion and on the inner face of the body V31 of the envelop there is produced a coupon34c.` The card 25 is utilized as a carrier for the envelop and maybe of a size to permit its inclosure in an ordinary letter sizeenvelop, or may be even addressed and stamped and mailed after the manner of a postal card. The envelop 28 may be sent to Ithe vpersonto f Whom the` gift is to be-made in thel sealed condition, or itmay be sent in the open con-' dition. If sent sealed then'the envelop must beopened in the usual manner, whereupon the coupon 34e-"is cut out 'along designating lines 35, but 'if lthe envelop is sent unsealed then the 'recipient may use the enveloppas a? carrier for mailing the coupon tothe concern which is to furnish the goods. -Of course, the `envelop A28 may` be furnished Without the card 25,' and in 'such case itis sealed, addressed andfmailed Vto'athe party to Whom the gift is to be made, and the recipient then removes the .coupon Vand sends it properly filled out to thedealen 1 In Fig. 12 there is shown a simpley coupon in the form'of a postal card 36 having the usual address section'37, correspondence section 38 and space 39 Vfor the Vaddress Vof the sender. The other face of the postal card is provided ivith a coupon l0 and'a list lHof articles similar to the lists shown 'in Fig. 3, but necessarily less comprehensive on account of limited space; "i .Y f
A sellerof the'coupons canv Well afford to furnish them at face value, since there is no necessity of' carrying any 'stock'. of goods, for the seller may merely act as a distributerreceiving a certain percentageifor serw ices. The dealer honoring the coupons can -readily obtain larger profits than would be obtainable "from furnishing the goodstat Wholesalerates,
If the certificates be of an elaborate nature, then a small amount may l.be'charged for them over and above their face value.
The recipient is enabled from a Wide choice afforded to obtain an article representing not only the thoughtfulness of'zthe sender, but insuring additional satisfaction in enabling the recipient to obtain a desired article. i 'In all' forms of the invention there is provided a coupon or certificate with. means for transmitting it, usually by mail, to the person intended, and so arranged that the coupon' may .be Vreadily removed and for- Warded by the recipient tothe dealer or concern furnishing the goods on presentation of the certificate. Accompanying .each` certificate is a descriptive list of a variety of goods any article of which is furnishedon.`
iso
presentation of theicertifcate, the list lbeing sufliciently complete in description and address coincides with the space for the coupon on the opposite side of the sheet intended to receive the sending address, then itis unnecessary to lill in the name of the recipient on the coupon, since such naine al'- ready appears Within the address space.
