Specification of Letters Patent. I Patented Dec. 1 8, 1917.
Application filed September 22. 1914. Serial No. 862,944.
useful Improvements in Clothes-Driers, of
which the following is a specification. I
Thls invention relates to clothes drums and the principal ob ect of the invention is to provide a cheaply constructed, simple and.
efficient device of this character which may be suspended from the ceiling and raised to an out-of-the-way position whennot in use.
Another object of the invention is to provide a clothes drier adapted to be suspended from th ceiling and in which a plurality of radiating drying arms are connected to a central slidably mounted head in such manner that they may have slight horizontal movement for varying the distances between the arms as is found most convenient.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the following description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this application, and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation partly in section. r
Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1 showing the drying arms in plan view.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 represents a suitable type of ceiling plate which is secured to the joist 2 and has firmly secured thereto and depending there from a shaft 3 having secured upon its lower end a limiting head 4:. Slidably mounted upon the rod is a collar 5 having an annular flange 6 and secured to the collar at its lower end is an enlarged disk 7 forming a bearing surface for the radiating drying arms 8. The inner ends of the arms 8 are arranged between the disk 7 and the collar 6 and are pivoted at their inner terminals upon pins 9 passed through the collar 6 and removably seated in the sockets formed in the disk 7. Each arm 8 is provided with a pin 10 adapted to adjustably engage sockets or recesses 11 formed in the upper face of the disk 7, the inner terminals of the arms being so constructed as to permit slight vertical movement of the arms to permit this adjustment.
Secured to the upper end of the collar 5 is an I bolt 12 to which is connected a cable opics of this patent may be obtained for 13 for raising and lowering-the collar. and associated parts, as will be readily seen; This'cable passes over a pulley 14 secured to an I bolt 15'which is threaded into the ceiling plate, and thence over a pulley 16 secured to the side wall, as shown. The lower.
end of the cable is provided with an operating handle or knob 17 and the intermediate 8 portion of, the cable is provided with a ring 18 which is arranged to engage a wall hook 19. lVhen the free end of the Cable is pulled upon and the ring 18 engaged with thowall hook 19 the arms will be raised to a point adjacent the ceiling so as to be out of the way. By disengaging the ring from the hook the arms may be lowered to operative position and as before described they may be turned horizontally so as to secure the requisite separation according to the nature of the articles to be suspended thereon.
Wh t is claimed is z 7 l. A clothes drier comprising a ceiling plate, a shaft depending therefrom, arm supporting means, slidably mounted for adjustment upon said shaft, means for securing said arm supporting means in adjusted position, arms pivoted to said arm supporting means in a manner to permit of slight vertical and horizontal movement to adjust said arms independently in a hori zontal plane and means carried by each of said arms and engageable with said arm'supporting means for retaining the arms in such adjusted position. I
2. A clothes drier comprising a ceiling plate, a shaft depending therefrom, a supporting head slidably mounted for adjustment upon said shaft and having circumferentially arranged spaced sockets therein,
the top of which is flush with the surface of the supporting head, means for securlng said head in adjusted position, arms pivoted JQHN H. NEEF.
