As shown in the drawings: The davenport comprises the end" members '1, and back 2, affording-the dav'enpoi t frame, I Rigtidly seelired centrally on (each end; of amma members i333;- cam plate 3, comprising a 'plate east or stampedto afford near its lower ed ea substantially honiz rrml slot A; e'xteng p g pwardly and forwardly 'rom -os s nat te; otliqigew therfram is a1 s at" 13;, one (Wall othei wiili by rduh'ded pr'ojctih 6; both i egr ith the cam plate, said rib being loo cohneted with sisa tamplate by as arched weh 5', as shown 'smoraipg etween-memes showing the '5 5 7 ing' to near endof the plate and the low'er sicle or edge 'ofi whi'eh inclines from its hi hest ,'poiht somewhattlownwardlyto the en s, as shown I inFigsQ. 6th 9 jhelu'sive; i T

c'ally enga efithepin 35, on the respective links when I the 'mattress frame is rolled inwardly-'aii d'the legs folded in closed relation? Means are rovided for positively locking the'mattress'f rame ijn folded relation on the seat. For this purpose, spring arms or plates 36, .eachprovided with an inwardly directed"ho"ok 87,"nea'r its extremity, and an extension 38, for manualengagement beyond the hookis'providedon thes'eat frame, and, when the seat is inverted, extends up wardlynpon eachside the mattress frame as the "same is folded inwardly:
Engaged by metallic straps 39, on the under side of the intermediate long frame sections near the middle thereof, are lateral projections 4-0, shown as a rod of metal bent to afford a loop projecting beyond said frame members. Said members are pivotally supported in place so that when the bed is extended, as shown in Fig. 5, the same swing downwardly and cannot injure the person. When the bed frame is rolled up or closed upon the seat as shown in Fig. 3, however,'the operator engages each of said members or projections and swings the same outwardly, as shown, into engagement with the hook 37, as shown in Figs. 3, l0 and 11.
The operation is as follows:
When the seat is in normal position, as shown in Fig. 2, the folded mattress frame and the bedding are supported wholly upon the seat and beneath the same, and a fall or front board 41, secured at the front of the seat, as shown in Fig. 2, serves to entirely conceal the mechanism supported behind the same. When it is desired to open the bed, the operator engages the front of the seat frame, and pulling the same slightly forward, lifts the seat with the construction supported thereon, which being approximately balanced upon the pivot pin and roller, maybe readily inverted, and as the seat is turned over, the locking pin and roller move upwardly in the groove B, in the cam plate, the projection 6, being rounded to prevent the locking roller catching thereon at the beginning of the upward movement.
The pressure applied in inverting the seat, causes the pivot pin and roller to move outwardly to near the forward end of the slot A, and having passed the highest point therein (at which time the locking roller passes over the upper end of the rib 4E, and engages on the opposite side thereof in the groove C), the movement is continued until the locking roller reaches the lower end of the rib 4:, 'ermitti'ngthe pivot roller' tdm'ove downwardly to the 3 forward extremity of the slot A, and the pivot roller tgrengage beneaththe end of the rib The seatds now, locked in inverted"fosition'and cafinot beimovd except reverse and by first push ingthe seat slightly inwardto clear the locking roller "from the lower end of the" rib'4', The. latches or projections 40, are now released by pressing on the extended end 88, of the spring hooks and the outersectionsof the bed 'rame arelswung outwardly and downwardly, as'illustrated in Fi's. l and 5, thus projecting the legs 29 an "31, into suppor'ting'position, as shown in Fig.
5, and acting conjointly as alever to swing the short sections 17, upwardly, thereby elev ting. a d P .hing.the long e io 1.
inwardly,mov1ng the guide rollers upwardly in the inclined groove in the guide plate to the top thereof and into supporting position. In this position the bed is fully extended for use. The fall or front board 38, and the upholstering of the back of the davenport serves as a head-board for the bed to assist in holding the bedding in place.
The closing of the bed is effected in the same manner, the sections folding or rolling inwardly, and, as the same swing past the position shown in Fig. 4, the hook 34: on the latches 32, engage the pins 35, and the short section 17, swings to substantially the position shown in Fig. 3, thus drawing the long section 16, outwardly and downwardly to a position close against the seat frame. The projections 40 are again engaged upon the spring hooks, and the seat may be returned to normal. During the return to normal, the edge of the pivot plate engaging in the hooked detent afforded on the front end of the cam plate, is guided thereby, and substantially locked from any movement away from said cam plate.
Of course, I appreciate that numerous details of the construction may be varied. I have illustrated and described but a preferred construction, and I therefore do not purpose limiting the patent granted on this application otherwise than necessitated by the prior art.
I claim- 1. A davenport comprising a revolving seat, a mattress frame pivotally secured to the seat consisting of sections pivotally connected, links pivoted to some of said sections, legs pivotally connected to the links, pins secured to some of said links, latches secured to some of said legs projecting outwardly to engage said pins to hold the outer frame sections rigidly together and pins secured to said latches for holding the same in their projected position.
2. In a device of the class described a rotatable seat frame, a mattress frame thereon compris in inner, intermediate and outer rt ulate fi ions dapted be folded or rolled. upwardly and inwardly from the outer end together with its mattress legs pjvqtallympunted onsaid intermediate and outer sections, links connecting" said legs With said intermediate, and Outer sections, hook latches pivotally m ounted on said outer legs to interlock With said intermediate ectione t he ithe matt s frameiQlde a pi v seem on; 9, 1n pi r ch of mi etcb s acl pte to v,ex2 e z' t. th ree c outer legs tohold latches in a projected no' en tQ pe zmit. engag ment with said intermediate sections, brackets rigidly secured on the seat frame ith which the intermediate sections of the mattress frame are c o nected, and means eleyatlng the mat- Qqiies of this jpat e nt ingy be obtained rorihve cents each; by addressing. the Commissioner of Iatents,
