I u i i This invention relates to rope-clamps, With the object in view of providing a device of this character which" will freely permit the passage of a flexible cord when drawn through in one direction, but automatically clamp the cord against movement When attempted to be drawn in the reverse direction. Another objectis to provide means for manually operating the pulley so as'to permit the cord to move in the inhibiteddirection.
A further object is to provide such a device which is very simple in its construction, and \Vl11Cl1- contains certain improvements in its form and construction and 111 thearrangement of parts,whereby theabove 'namedand other objects maybe efiectively carried out.

In operation, it will be seen that when the device is secured by means of its eye 7 in any desired-"position, tension upon theend of the cord which passes-"through the guide rim 6 will rotate the inner member 8 so as to cause the edge of its wall 9 to move away from the lower edge of the wall 2'ofr'th'e outer member, as shown in Fig. 6, thereby leaving a free passage through the device for the cord 12,-and hence permitting the latter to be pulled therethrough at will. As soon, however,as tension is exerted upon the other end of the cord, thereby starting it in the reverse direction, the inner member 8 will ,be correspondingly rotated, thus moving the edge of its wall 9 toward the nearedge of the wall 2 and almost immediately clamping the'cord between these two side edges, as clearly shown in Fig 5. In this position the ,cord will be resting in the groove or lip 11. In case it is desired to permit the cord to slip slightly in the inhibited direction whiletension is thereon, theinner member S may be rotated by the handlelO so as to momentarily release the cord; butas'soon as the operator lets go of the handle 10, the tension on the cord will automatically cause the inner member 8 to rotate in the opposite direction, thereby again clamping the cord as previously described.

1. 'A device of the character described comprising an outer member having a cylindrical bore therein and a hollow cylindrical guide rim, the wall of said member being cut awayfor substantially three quarters the circumference of the bore to form radial edges, a hollow cylindrical inner member rotatably fitted in 'sai'd'bore, the wall of said inner member being cut away for substantially one half of its circumference to form radial edges to'coact with aforesaid radial edges of the outer member, the said cutaway portions being disposed sothat' a flexibl e cord may be passed transversely across the axis of rotation of saidinner member and between the radial edges of both members andone end of said cord passed through said tiallyth'ree quarters the'ci rcumference 'of'the bore to .form radial edges, =a hollowcylindrical inner member rotatably :fitted in said bore, the wall of said inner member being cut away for substantially one half of its circumference to form radial edges to coact with aforesaid radial edges of the outer member, the saidcutaway portions being disposed *so that a. flexible cord may be passed transversely across the axis of rotation of said inner member andzbe'tween the radial edges of bothmembers and, one end of said cord passed through saidrim, whereby tension on the-other end of the cord will rotate the inner member so as to cause the 80rd tol be gripped between the radial edges 7 of the inner and outer members and tension on the cord passing through the rim will rotate the innerzmemberuso: as tore-lease the cord and permit it to be freely drawn throughthe clamp; 1
