GUSTAV A. HARTER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
ELECTRIC FIXTURE;
Speciflcnton of Letters Patent.
lntilllicl Doc. 18,1917.
, i- Application lell June 212i 1914. Seriali-No. 846,419.
To all 'whom z' may concern.'
Bc it known that l@ (los'rm ll.\|rri;n, u. citlzenof the Unit-ud Stati-s. residing at lhicaigo. `in the county of Cook und Sinto of lllinoisill'zrru inrcntvd curtain ncw :1nd useful Improvonufnts ni lllovlric Fixtures. of' which. the following is :l sl'n-(filculion.
This invvution reluteslo i'ixturvs for clem tric linups, and more purtivnlurly to :i lixture in whichm socket-globo and shudo nro frechY adjustable to facilitato thc` installotion thereof and to nccornrinoduto hoops of diilert-mt sizes sothzit the vn'niximino olli cicncy for lamps of di'ercnt sixcs muy bc Obtained with the silnc fixtnril by varying the position of the several'inl-justnlilv ports.
For the attainment ot thcse'cnds und. the accomplishment of other new eind nselul ob- 'ects, as will appear, this invention consistsl 1n .the features of novelty in the dons-truction, Combination and arrangement of the several parts generally 'shown in the accom- 4panynig drawing and described -in the spccis fication,` but more, particularl` in the appended claims. v
In Vthe drawing, Figure l is :1 vico' ot u fixture constructed in accordance with thc principles of. my invention; Fig. u sec- V pointed ont tional View on the line 22 of. Fig. 1; Fig.

To provide n .fixture which is ndaptcdto accommodate different sized electric lumps,
articulo-Ply the new high power nitrogen amps, it is necessary that some :idjustubility be provided whereby the maximum eliiccncy of the .lamp `is obtained.. ., offset groove in which is seated a split ringE 27 which extends beyond the edges of the plate 26. Supy orte'd by the split ring 27 is a 4shade 28 w ich has e perforation 29 slight] larger than the supporting plate 26 so t at the supporting late asses freely through the'o ening 29 w en t ic' split ring is removed. he split ring may b e easily removed ti separating the plate 27"and .the shade slig tly and moving the split ring by means ofthe s lit portion thereof on either side of the s 'ade itself or on either side of the plate 26, the normal positionof the s lit ring being between the plate' and the sliade. Oxf top of the shade and surrounding the threaded member 7 is a shade guard 30which protects the shade from the weather preventing any water from settling at the top of the shade and also holding the shade holder firmly ,in position. A lcknut 31 is threaded on themember 7 above the guard 30 and'binds the fiaid, the plate 26, the shell 19` andthe yo e 9 all firmly. to ether.
ith this construction it is obvious that the shade 28 may-be raised or lowered without effecting the position of the socket-13 or the globe 25; the socket may be adjusted independently by sim ly vurying-thevposition of the socketin t e arms 12; the `position of the socket ma also be varied by :substituting longer or s orter arms; and the shade or g be' 25 may be raised or lowered by inserting; or removing. split rings. Thus a sin le fixture may be used to ,accommo-- date large or small lamps and the several parte' are relatively adjustable so that the maximum eiliciency will be obtained from4 the lamp by reason of the f'osition of the ltlilm with respectl to the globe and to ithe s a e.
'In order to prevent a lamp from becom` ing easily disengaged'ffrom the socket, a metal strip 32, "prefe'rablof phosphor bronze or some 'therresi ient conducting material, is secured tothezinner end of a4 shell 33 of'thev'lsocket xtending ou'twardl therefrom and S'o disposed-that tlie threade gend o'f a. lamp inserted the shell will compress'the strip into' theA grooves of the shell ai'idwill thus cause the lam socketA ,to-` closely engage the'lamp 'for holding it firmly but yieldingly in position VhatI claim ist 1. In iinelectric fixture, a'support, arms secured to thej support', a lamp .socket adjustable in height with res `)ect to the arms, and a band extending -albout .the ysocket adapted to engage the lower free eifrta'fernih ties ofthe 'arms to'hol'jd them inwardly in bythe socket..
