To all whom it may concern; Be it known that I, ROMAN C. SMoozYN- SKI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Catawissa, in the cOunty of Columbia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blocks for Portable Machinery; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention. suchas will enable others skilled in the'art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to blocks or'chocks for preventing movementv of portable machinery, such as portable gasolene engines, traction engines, grain separators 'orother analogous portable machinery wherein'belt from which power is transmitted by belt.
An object of this invention is to provide a block structure as specified which includes a pair of blocks adapted to beislipped ber neath the rear wheels of portable machinery as specified which blocks are carried by the lower ends of pivotally mounted arms, to provide bracing arms for the blocks which are pivotally connected to the axle of the portable machine and further to provide a rock shaft to whichthe arms which carry the blocks are connected, so that uponrthe rocking of the shaft the blocks will either be forced beneath the wheels or moved out from the wheels and upwardly out of the ground engaging position. V r i With the foregoing, and other. objects in view, this invention consists. in such novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as-will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and claims.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters designate like and corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which':

The supporting frame 1 ofthe portable machine has a rear axle 2- carried thereby upon the spindle ends of (which the usual type, of supporting wheels 3 are mounted. The side rails 4 and 5 of the supporting frame 1 are provided with cutout portions 6 formed therein and extending upwardly from their :under surfaces adjacent their a rear. ends. in which cutout portions is slid-r ably mounteda cross bar 7. The bar 7 may be of the usual type of brake beam. The cross bar 7 has a plurality of depending bearing brackets 8' carried thereby which rockably support a shaft 9 that extends transversely across the machine and-hasa U- shaped bracket 10 dependingfrom each end of the same and a third substantially U- shaped bracket 11 depending from the cen: ter' of. the shaft as clearly shown in'Fig. 4

The depending U-shaped bracket 10 has links 12 pivotally connected thereto as shown at 13' t0 the lower ends of which links are connected the blocks 14' which are adapted to be moved beneath the rear wheels 3 for. blocking or chockingthese wheels so as to preventaccidental movement ofthe portable machinery during its opera-; tion. The chocking blocks 14; have their upper surfaces convexedly curved as shown at 15 and 16 and concavely curved as shown at 17 intermediate the two convexedly curved portions for securely fitting beneath the rear wheels and blocking them up out of ground engaging position.
Links 18 are connected as shown at 19 to the blocks 14 and they are pivotally connected as shown at 20 to blocks 21. Pins 22 are formed upon andextend forwardly from the front ends of the blocks 21 which I pins extend through the rear axle 2 inwardly of the spindle ends of the axle as clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. The links shaped bracket 11 has a rod 24 pivotally connected thereto which rod is also pivotally connected to a U-shaped bracket- 25 which depends from the enlarged portion 26 of a rock shaft 27. The rock shaft 27 is rockably supported by suitable bearings 28 which are carried by the supporting frame 1. Aha-nd lever 30 is mounted upon the rock shaft 27 for rocking this shaft;
hen the portable machine has been transported to a desired location, and it is to be employed either for transmitting power to another machine, or for performing the function for which it was designed, the hand lever 30 is rocked, which will rock the'shaft 27 and consequently rock therock shaft 9, through the medium of the rod 2 1. The rocking of the shaft 9 will, when the hand lever 30 is moved forwardly, move the links 12 rearwardly and force the blocks 1% beneath the rear supporting wheels 3 of the portable machine, preventing these wheels from rotating during the operation of the machine and also eliminating the necessity of blocking the wheels of the machine in the usual manner.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the advantages of construction andof the method of. operation of the improved block for portable machinery, will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains, and while in the foregoing description, the principle of the operation of this invention hasbeen described together with various features of construction, it is to be understood that certain minor features of construction, coinbination and arrangement of parts may be altered to suit practical conditions provided such alterations are comprehended within the scope of what is claimed.
What is claimed is:
1. The combination with a portable machine including a supporting structure, a rear axle, and supporting wheels mounted Copies of this patent may be obtained for upon said axle, of a rock shaft rockably carried by said supporting structure, a pair of links pivotally connected to the ends of said rock shaft, chocking blocks pivotally connected to the lower ends of said links, a sec- 0nd rock shaft carried by saidsupporting nected to said axle and said chocking blocks for guiding the movement of the blocks and holding them predetermined distances from said axle.
2. The combination with a portable machine including a supporting structure, a
rear axle, and supporting wheels mounted upon said axle, of a rock shaft rockably carried by said supporting structure, a pair of links pivotally connected to the ends of said rock shaft, checking blocks pivotally connected to the lower ends of said links, a second rock shaft carried by said supporting structure, a lever attached to saidsecond named rock shaft, means connecting said first named rock shaft and said second named rock shaft for rocking the second named rock of said lever for forcing said blocks beneath the rear supporting wheels, links pivotally connected to said blocks, blocks pivotally connected to the upper ends of said last named links, pins carried by said last named blocks and extending through said rear axle;
