To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, JAMES H. MOKAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Forest City, in the county of Winnebago and State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Concrete Ties, of which the following is a specification. I
This invention relates to improvements in theconstruction of concrete ties for railway rails.
In carrying out my invention, it is my purpose to provide a tie comprising end members in the nature of reinforced concrete blocks, and connecting members for said end members in the nature of metallic rods. I
It is also my purpose to produce a tie comprising end members in the nature of blocks which have their under faces grooved longitudinally, and to provide connecting bars for the said blocks, the said bars being desi ed to be received in the grooves of the bloc {S and having integrally formed therewith, elements which contact with the opposite ends of the said blocks, whereby the rods and blocks may be quickly associated or disassociated as occasion requires.
It is a further object of the invention to produce a tie of this character which shall be of an extremely simple construction,
cheap to manufacture, and which will per-' form the functions for which it is devised with efficiency and with certainty.

As disclosed by the drawings, the improved tie is primarily devised to engage with the rail 10 that has its foot or base portion formed with a flange or. rib 11, but, in this connection, it is to be stated that the tie may be provided with securing means whereby the rails of the ordinaryconstruction may be attached thereto.
The tie comprises essentially end members 12 and connecting members 13 for the said end members. The end members 12, in the present instance, are in the nature of reinforced plastic blocks, certain of the reinforcements, indicated for, distinction by Specification of Letters Patent. From the foregoing description, when taken in connection with the drawing, the simplicity and advantages of the construc tion will be apparent without further detailed description.-
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
1. In a tie for railway rails, blocks having their under faces grooved longitudinally, connecting bars for said blocks received in the referred grooves and having elements integral therewith engaging the ends of the said blocks. r
2. Ina railway tie, reinforced plastic blocks forming rail seats and having their under faces grooved longitudinally, connecting bars for the blocks received in the referred to grooves, said bars having their ends upset to engage with the outer ends of the blocks, said bars being further provided with additional upset portions designed to engage with the inner ends of the said blocks.

In a railway tie, plastic blocks having transverse slots in the upper faces thereof, said blocks having their under faces grooved throughout the length thereof, metallic connecting bars for the blocks received in the grooves thereof, said bars having their ends upset to engage With the outer ends of the blocks and to exert a spring tension against said ends, and said bars being provided with additional upset portions designed to engage the inner ends of the blocks and to 10 exert a spring tension thereagainst.
