GASDLENE CUT-OUT.
Jersey, have invented certain new and use tul improvements in Gasolene Cut-Outs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a lull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to whichit appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to means for controlling the operation oi gas engines through the cutting out of the supply of combustible to such engine.
The principal object of the invention is to provide an improved valve arrangement which is electrically operated and may be used in connection with a timer such as is described in my copending application No. lh'-l,632, filed April 21, 1913.
A second object of the invention is to provide a locking means which will prevent the accidental closing oil or opening up of the valve through jar or shock.
W'th the above and other objects in view the invention consists in general of certain hovel details of construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically claimed.

in carrying out the objects of this inven tion there is provided a lower casing which may be termed the valve casing and this lower casing has at each side a glass or other transparent window 11 so that the location of the column of fluid therein may be observed. Within this lower casing is the valve mechanism proper. vice. Extending from the lower casing to a gas tank 13 is a tube 1 1 which opens into the lower casing at the upper part of one side thereof. Extending from the lower part of the. opposite side of said lower casing is a tube 15 which leads to the carbureter 16. Mounted in the upper casing 12 is a plurality of electro-magnets 17 arranged so as to form two pairs. The inner ends of the windings of these magnets are all connected to the respective cores 18 and on top of these magnets is mounted a bracket 19 wherein is pivoted a shaft 20 having arms 21 extending outward therefrom and en gaging said cores 18, the latter being cut away at their upper ends to form curved contact surfaces 21 wherewith said arms constantly engage.
l Vithin the upper casing is also a plate of insulating material 22 and on this plate of insulatin material are mounted the binding posts 23, 2 1 and 25. The last two bind ing posts are connected to suitable contact plates 26 on the plate 22. Depcndingfrom the shaft 20 is an arm 27 which carries the contact; fingers 28. Thisarm 27 is of insulat ing material so that the contact fingers are insulatedirom the shaft 20. The contact fingers are connected by means of a wire 29 with the binding post 23 while the respective plates 26 are connected to the respective posts 21 and 25. At 30 is a battery which is connected by a wire 31 with the contact post 23 and by a wire 32 with a switch 33 which is to be operated by the timer above mentioned. This switch operates over two contacts 34 which are connected by wires 35 with the respective posts 24 and 25. A normally open bell circuit 36 may be used to connect the wires 32 and 35 as a testing circuit.
The casing 10 is provided with suitable openings wherein are located the valve seats 37 with which the respective pipes 1 1 and 15 are connected. Extending transversely of said casing 10 is a shaft 38 supported on brackets 39 which are connected to the lower ends 40 of the cores 21, said lower ends projecting well down into the casing. Swinging from the brackets 39 are two bell crank levers 41 and these levers support armatures 12 which lie inside of the respective pairs of core ends 40. The outer arms are provided with rabbets 1-3 to form latches. On the shaft 38 is pivoted a lever 44 which has llti a companion lever at the opposite end of the shaft and these two levers 44 support the armatures 45 which lie beneath the respective pairs of core ends 40. Mounted on the shaft 38 and rotating therewith is a lever 46 which carries the valve stems 50 the latter being loosely mounted on the lever and held in position yieldin'gly by means of springs 51. These valve stems carry the valves 52 which are arranged to seat in the respective seats 37.
In the operation of the device when the switch 33 is thrown into one position current will flow through the binding post 24 and contact finger 28, passing on its way through the right hand magnet of Fig. 3. The first action will then be to attract the right hand armature 42 which will release the armature 45 and permit this to be attracted by the poles 40. This will serve to rock the lever 46 so as to close the valves. At the same time the upper ends of the magnet cores will draw down the right hand ends of the armature levers 21 thus causing the contact fingers to move over to the contact 26 and break the circuit between the right hand magnets and the battery. This circuit will remain broken until the switch 38 is moved to the other contact 34 whereupon the reverse of the above operation will take place, the left hand armature 45 being unlatched and drawn up and the parts caused to assume the position shown in Fig. 3, thus opening the valves.
There has thus been provided a simple and etficient device of the kind described and of the character specified.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. In combination, a. valve, a casing, a
masses pair of magnets mounted in said casing, a pivoted arm engaging the cores of said magnets, a depending arm engaging said pivoted arm, contact fingers at the extremity of said depending arm, a pair of contact plates adjacent to said fingers, a pair of levers mounted adjacent to each other and to the lower ends of the respective cores of said magnets, armatures supported on said levers, bracket connected to the lower ends of said cores, a shaft mounted in said brackets midway between said levers, a lever mounted on said shaft, armatures at the re spective ends thereof controlled respectively by said first mentioned levers, and an actuating lever pivoted on said shaft and disposed transversely of said last mentioned lever and movable therewith, a plurality of valves, said actuating lever operably connected to said valves and adapted to open and close said valves alternately when said contact fingers are moved from one contact plate to the other.
2. In a gasolene cut out device, a gasolene chamber, and pipes communicating with said chamber, a lever pivotally mounted in said chamber, a. cross arm connected to said lever, valves on the respective ends of said cross arm adapted to close said pipes, the said cross arm being slidably connected to said valves, springs interposed between the valve heads and the cross arm and means for rocking said lever.
