IMPROVEMENT IN SHAWL AND BREAST PINS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 124,896, dated March 2G, 1872; antedated March 8, 1872.
To all whom t may concern:
VBe :it known that we, WILLIAM H. Hooi(- nNsMrrH and CHARLES Oonsrnn, Jr., of Bridgeport, in the county of; Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Shawl and Breast Pins; and We do hereby declare that thefollowing is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming partof this specification.
The object of this invention is to so construct a shawl or breast pin that it shall be durable and strong, and not liable to get Vloose or become detached from the cloth when in use; and it consists in a spring-pin and a hoolicatch connected with a plate; theparts being constructed and arranged as will be hereinafter more fully described.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is an edge view, showing the pin attached to the cloth as when in use. Fig. 2 is a backside View. Fig. 3 is a perspective view.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Ais a metallic plate; B, the pin; C, the spring; and D, thecatch. The last three are all made from a single piece of wire, doubled, coiled at the fold to make a spring, and bent into an S-form at the free end, and at right angles to the length of the pin, to form the catch. The straight base of the pin is t-hen soldered to the plate A along its whole length.
The advantages oi' this :in one piece of wire are, rst, the simplicity and cheapness of construction; second, the firm hearing which it gives upon the plate, and the consequent strength and durability. v
We are aware that a pin With a spring formed by its own coil, and soldered to the plate inthe rear, and having a separate and independent catch soldered to the plate in front, is old; and We wish distinctly to disclaim any such thing as a part of our invention; but
What we do esteem to be new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, isi The pin B, spring C, and catch D, formed of a single Wire bentinto the shape described, and attached to the plate A, as set forth.
WM. H. HOCKENSMITH. CHARLES COESTER, JR. Witnesses:
