SUPPORTING-MAT.
Application filed May 2, 1917.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALICE L. Moonr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Helena, in the county of Lewis and Clark and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Supporting-Mats, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to supporting mats, and has for its primary object to provide an article of this character which may be employed for a great variety of purposes and is highly convenient and serviceable in use as a household article.
lit is another and more particular object of the invention to provide a supporting mat for pots, pans, hot dishes, and similar utensils, which is entirely constructed of wire of suitable gage in a very simple and inexpensive manner and is very strong and durable.
With the above and other objects in view, my invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective View illustrating the preferred embodiment of the invention; and
Fig. 2 is a section of Fig. 1.
Referring in detail to the drawing, 5 designates the end wires of the mat, upon taken on the line 22 which the terminals of the equidistantly spaced, supporting wires 6 are bent and securely clenched as indicated at 7 whereby said wires will be efiectually held against relative shifting movement. Each of the end wires 5 of the mat frame has its end portions angularly bent downwardly as shown at S, contiguous to the outermost longitudinal supporting wire 6 and the terminal portions 9 of the wires 5 are then inwardly bent and upwardly inclined from the angular portions 8 thereof and disposed at their extremities in contact with the clenched ends of the next adjacent longitudinal wires 6. Thus, the portlons 8 and Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 27, 191W.
Serial No. 165,997,
9 of the wires 5 provide rigid, supporting feet for the mat frame, and by disposing the terminals of the portions 9 in contact with the under sides of the wire rods 5, said rods are braced and reinforced so that bending or distortion of the same when heavy articles are placed upon the supporting wires 6, will be obviated.
From the foregoing description, taken in connectlon with the accompanying drawing, the construction, manner of use, and several advantages of my device will be clearly and fully understood. The device may be serviceably employed for toasting bread, the slices being laid upon the spaced, supporting wires 6, or the mat can be used for supporting cans in a boiler in the process of canning fruits and vegetables. The device is likewise susceptible of many other uses such, for instance, as supporting hot dishes or pots, and as a stand for jardinieres or other heavy articles. It is manifest, of course, that the wire mat can be made in various sizes, and the several elements thereof may be of any desired thickness and gage in accordance with the particular purpose for which the device may be designed. It is, therefore, to be understood that while I have herein shown and described the preferred construction and arrangement of the several parts, the same are susceptible of considerable modification therein and I, therefore, reserve the privilege of adopting all such legitimate changes as may be fairly embodied within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent is:
1. As an improved article of manufacture, a supporting mat including end wires and spaced, parallel, longitudinal wires having their terminals bent around the end wires and securely clenched thereon, the end portions of said end wires being angularly bent and having inwardly and upwardly inclined portions bearing at their extremities against the under side of said end wires and in contact with the clenched ends of certain of the longitudinal wires.

R. L, MOODY, A. A. PELLETIER.
2. As an improved article of manufacture,
a wire mat including end Wires each having its end portions angularly bent to constitute supporting feet, the terminalsof the a wire being upwardly and inwardly inclined and disposed in the same vertical plane as the body portion of the wire and having bearing contact against the under side there- Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,- Washington, D. 0.
