.o all whom 'it may concern.'
Be it known that l, ANNnsLnr DE Los SMITH, a citizen of the United States of America, and residing at New York, inlthe county of New York and `State of New Tfork, have. invented 'new and useful A'improvementsin GarmentForins, of 'which the fol` lowing is a specification.
My invention relates particularly to a form adapted for shaping andfitting a skirt and getting it the proper length.
1n its preferred form `the invention consists of a, suitable standard, a form for `the waist and hips, an adjustable marker for the bottom of the skirt and a guard or shield extending from the waist form to the marker band. The waist form and marker band are preferably relatively adjustable for different lengths of skirts. Themarker band is also adjustable circumferentially for varying the size of the bottom of the skirts. Similar adjustable bands may be employed at one or more points between the waist and the bottom of the skirt for shaping the skirt at intermediate points. Details of construction and modifications will be understood from the accompanying single sheet of drawings and the following specification.
Figure l, is a perspective view of a form embodying the improvements of my invention.
Fig. 2, is a horizontal or plan view showing the base and bottom marker band.
Fig. 3, is a front view of the same, part of the band being shown as broken away.
Fig. 4, is a fragmentary perspective view of the waist member with an eXtensible band carried thereby.
Fig. 5, is a detail perspective view showing another adjustable band adapted to be mounted between the waist and the bottom band.
Fig. 6, is a fragmentary perspective view showing a modified form of shield and connection with the waist.
Fig. 7 is a fragmentary view showing a modified form of connection between the skirt guard or shield and the bottom band.
Fig. 8, is a fragmentary perspective view illustrating another method of securing the skirt guard or shield to the waist member.
Fig. 9, is a fragmentary view of another modification for connecting a shield or guard member to the waist member.
The pedestal 11 may be of any suitable form but as the apparatus is preferably adapted to be collapsed or taken apart and folded into compact space, it is convenient to use a box for the purpose, which boX may contain the various parts for storage or shipment purposes.
' The waist` bust or body member l2 is preferably of a shape and size to correspond with thatof the person to be fitted. The
bottom band 13 is for marking the bottom ofthe skirt. This band may be of steel, brass "or other suitable material, preferably flexible. rEhe waist, bust or body member is supported by the post preferably consisting of two parts 14 and l5 which are telescopic and adapted to be clamped in various positions of vertical adjustment relative to the bottom by means of a thumb-nut 1G. The upper part 14C is secured in any suitable manner to the base 17 of the waist form. The lower part l5 is secured in any suitable manner to the pedestal ll. The waist, bust or body form is preferably formed of rubber or other suitable material adapted to be in- Hated to the proper size and shape.
The bottom band 13 is preferably eXtensible having its ends adapted to slide within the clip Q0. This band is supported by a series of brackets 2l, the bases 22 of which are secured to the pedestal, for instance, by means of bolts and thumb nuts 23 in slots so that the brackets maybe adjusted in and out to increase or decrease the size of the band. Preferably the brackets are provided with hooks 24.- for engaging the band and there is sufficient space below the ends of the hooks to permit the insertion or removal of the band for the purpose of assembling or disassembling the parts. One or more thumb screws 24 may be provided to hold the band from movement.
By this simple form of construction the band may be adjusted to any size or shape for the bottom of the skirt and the waist, bust or body member may be adjusted up or down to give the proper length relative to the bottom band.
Preferably a shield or guard is provided consisting of one or more parts for instance, of cloth, such as 25 and 26. The lower ends of these shield parts are secured to the band 13 in any suitable manner and the upper ends are secured around the waist for instance, by means of cords or tapes 27 and 28. Additional cords are also to be connected to the points 29 if desired. The shield is preferably pulled up or adjusted so as torbe taut. The lower parts of the shield members may consist of tapes or ribbons such as 30. The
entire shield may be formed of ribbons or tapes for instance, as at 31, attached to the Waist by a belt 32, as shown in Fig. 6. The band or tapes 31 may be secured by snap fasteners 33 direct to the Fig. 8. The shield member may also be Wider and attached by snap fasteners 34 as shown in Fig. 9.
A band 40 similar to 13 may be provided immediately below the base 17 with adjustable bracket supports 41 for the purpose of shapingl the skirt at different points. j
So also an intermediate band 43 may be provided at or about the location of the knees. This band is supported by a spider 4A through the medium of brackets such as 45 similar to the construction previously described. This spider member 44 may be adjusted up and down on post 14- and clamped for instance, by means of By the skirt properly at the Waist, at the hips and at the bottom and at any intermediate Waist as shown in a thumb screw 4:6.V this apparatus it is possible to shape point as Well as to obtain exactly the right length.` i YWhat I claim is Y Y 1; In a garment form, a curved base member, a body member and relatively Wide skirt guardV sections formed of strips of textile fabric conforming to and curved about the body member and having their lower Yedges secured to the curved base member and baving,` tapes securedto their upper edges and ber. s 2
2. .In Va garment form, a pedestal, a bust form supported on said pedestal, brackets mounted on the pedestal and radially adsecured around theWaist-of the Vbody memjustable, an extensible bottom band carried" by said bracketsand extensible and contractible in accordance With-the movement outward and inward of the radially adjustable brackets to suit skirts of different: diameters and adjustable skirt shaping shields extending from said adjustable bottom band to said form.
