2i), each rowY of each section presents a succession of lil-lades 24 alternately inclined in opposite directions and adapted for successively working and treating a strip of road surface by dragging loose earth successively in opposite directions and filling in pockets and depressions and cutting off bumps and elevations of such surface, each blade in a given row passing the loose earth rearwardly to the next following blade, which projects' therebcyond at its` forward end, and with its projecting wing receives such loose earth and the like and passes it rea-rwardly and laterally and repeated treatment is accorded to the surface in a single passage of the machine. Because of the close arrangement of the inner sills 14, 15, the inner ends of the bladecarrying arms 22 are arranged adjacent the outer end of the arms 21, and the entire ,surface of the road treated throughout the eflectivewidth of the device. i
Supplemental side sections 26, 27 may be employed, each of said sections comprising sill's'28, 29 and cross bars 30, 31 with blade-- carrying bars 32 having blades-24 with pro j acting Wings 25. The foremost blade-carryin" bars 32 are connected at their forward en -s'to thev inner 'sills 28 and inclined rearscribed. The supplementalfside sections 26,
27 are also provided with hingin devices similar to those previously desem ed, for
' flexibly connecting said sidesections to outer margins of the'main sections when= desired.
Wing sections 33, 34 also may be provided andl employed when desired, each of said sections comprising a sill`35, a forward cross bar 36 projecting laterally'therefrom, and.
a short rear cross bar'37 fixed to the rear end of said sill, said wing sections being adapted for flexible conneetionto the outer margins of'main sections 10, 11 or supplemental side sections 26, 27 as desired. A blade-carrying beam or bar 38 is fixed at one end to the outer end of the forward cross bar 36 of each wing section and inclines rearwardly and inwardly and is fixed at its opposite end tothe rear end of the sill 35, or to the short cross bar 37 adjacent said sill; and a second blade-carrying bar 39 is fixed at one end to an intermediate portion of the forward cross bar 36 and is arranged substantially parallel with the bar 38 and fixed at its opposite end to an intermediate ortion of the sill 35. The bars 38, 39 may e formed with Vsmoothing and leveling lower margins or maybe provided with detachable blades as desired. Thus the wing sections 33, 34 are narrower at their rear ends than at their forward'ends, and their blades are arranged in thesame direction, on each section and at more gentle inclinations than the blades of the other sections. The entire arrangement of blades is such that the'foremost blades 24 of the main and supplemental sections carry loose earth outwardly from the median line of the device and the rearmost blades of such sections carry the residue of loose earth' inwardlyto ward'the median'line of the device; While the blades of the outermost or Wing sections tend to carry loose earth inwardly toward the median line of the device, and alsovtend to carry inwardly the remains of cut grass and weeds to positions where they will be encountered by trafiic and ground tov fine portions.
Eyes 41 are fixed to outer ends of the for- Ward cross bars 16 in any suitable manner and clevises 4 2 engage said eyes and are removably secured to end portions of a draft beam 43.' Other 'clevises 44 are secured to the draft beam 43, conjunctivelyl with the clevises 42 but on the forward side of said beam,'a'nd draftchains '45 are secured to said forward Vclevises and converge forwardly and aresec'red toa ring46, adaptedgto receive bitching attachment of any suitable form of draft means'.
In Fig. 2 I have :shown means to facilitate folding of the outer sections of the' device upon the main sections at times, either for transportation o r to permit the passage of traffic on the road occupied by the drag. A derrick 47 is formed of channel iron bent at its center, arrangedV in upright position transversely of the device, and 'havin end portions of its legs secured pivotal y to plates 48carried by outer marginal portions of the main sections 10,11 respectively. A brace rod 49 is pivotally connected at one end to thetop. of the derrick bar 47 and'extends 'rearwardly and downwardly'and has its lower end pivotally connected to a plate 50 carried by the inner marginal portion of one of the maindrag sections. A winch 51 is carried by each "leg of the derrick bar 47 at a suitable distance above the plane of the drag sections 'and a cable 52 is rovided therefor 4and passes over a Vpulley lock 53 detachably secured to the 4outer margin of another dra section, such as a wing section 33 or 34. he cable 52 then asses over a fixed pulley block 54 carried Ey the upper part of the derrick, and baekto attachment to the first pulley block. It is to be 'understood that any other suitable arrangement of block and tackle devices may be provided. Ar'atchet 55 is fixed to the winch 51 and is adapted to be engaged by a paw] 56 pivoted to the derrick bar. This device may be employed to facilitate folding of the outer sections inwardly and upon the inner sections as desired.
Any number of the sections shown and described, and in any suitable arrangement, may be employed as a drag withwhich the whole or a l.half only of a highway may be treated, and simplicity of construction and flexibility in use is coupled with efficient operation and easy manipulation in securing the desired result, especial emphasis being tions, each of said wing sections having parallel blades inclined toward the median line of the drag.

3. A road drag, comprising main sections pivoted together, supplemental sections pivoted to outer margins of said main sections each of said sections comprising spaced lon-v gitudinal sills and cross hars on said sills, and blades spaced apart longitudinally on said sills and arranged in longitudinal and transverse rows and successively inclined in opposite directions, in the longitudinal rows all of the blades in each transverse row being inclined in one direction on one side of the median line of the drag and in the opposite direction on the other side.
