RIDING ATTACHMENT FOR ROLLER-SKATES.

Application filed April 5, 1917. Serial No. 160,046.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EMORY S. Econ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Montgomery, in the county of Montgomery and State of Alabama, have invented a new and useful Riding Attachment for Roller- Skates, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a riding attachment for roller skates, one of its objects being to provide a simple, compact and durable structure which can be attached readily to a pair of roller skates and can be used as a vehicle, simple means being provided whereby the said vehicle can be steered readily and there being novel means for controlling the movement of the vehicle.

Referring to the figures by characters of reference 1 designates an elongated foot board constituting the body of the attache ment and secured to the bottom of this foot board near one end is a block 2 the rear end of which is preferably rounded as in dicated at 3. Secured to the bottom of the block near its front end and extending trans versely thereof is a plate l. A steering post 5 is journaled in the front portion of the board. and is provided at its upper end with a handle 6. The lower end of this post is secured to a block 7 which is similar to the block 2, this block 7 having its rear end preferably rounded as indicated at 8 and having a transversely extending plate 9 upon its bottom face near the front end thereof. The block may be secured to the post in any suitable manner, as by means of a transverse bolt 10. An opening 11 is extended transversely through the block near the front end thereof and another transverse opening 12 is similarly arranged within the block 2.

A. slot 13 is formed in the foot board at a point baclcof the block 7 and extending through this slot is a handle 14 fixedly connected to a brake strip 15. This brake strip is pivotally attached to ears 16 extending downwardly from the foot board.

In using the attachment the blocks 2 and 7 are placed on ordinary roller skates and the rear portions of the skates are attached to the blocks by means of the ordinary foot engaging straps which are extended through the openings 11 and 12. In Fig. l the roller skates have been indicated at R and the attaching straps at S. The jaws which are ordinarily used on the skates for gripping the front portions of the soles of shoes, are employed in the present instance for gripping the side edges of the plates at and 9. After the skates have been fixedly connected to the blocks, the device can be used by placing one foot on the board 1 and using the other foot to propel the vehicle. The vehicle can be easily steered by means of the post 5 and the movement of the vehicle can be re tarded by pressing the strip 15 downwardly against the surface of the ground. It is designed to sell the device as an attachment for skates so that it can be readily applied to skates already in. the possession of the purchaser. The attachment is very simple, durable and etli oient, and is cheap to manufacture.

A riding attachment for roller skates, including a foot board, a roller skate engaging block depending from one end portion of the board, a steering post connected to the other end portion of the board. and a roller skate engaging block movable with the steering post below the foot board, each of said blocks being shaped to fit snugly upon one of the skates and having a strap receiving opening extending transversely therethrough.
