^ jJILBe it known thatl, WEBSTER all whom they` concern:` a f L. Milam,
l. acitizen ofthe UnitedStates, residing at Gladstone, county' of Delta, and State, of
Michigan, `have invented certain new `and useful Improvements in Firearm-Sights,V of
which the following isa specification.
.This f invention relates to firearm sights. yAnykind of a rear or peep sight is generally considered as an obstruction, encumbrance and `unnecessary part in shot gun f shooting but as indispensableV inriiie shooting. M In over and under firearms which employ riie and shot gun 'barrels arranged superposed relation, the use of a rear or peep `sight for the riebarrel is considered indispensable, but such a sight constitutes `an obstruction` and an unnecessary part `as i far as the shotbarrel is concerned. i `In this 20.`
typepofrearm if the rear sight is placed i `1n `the usual position `on .the upper barrel,
l "gitis inithe wayiwhenusinglthe shot barrel `and fifattached to lthe tangor neckI ofthe stock, it interferes'with the gripping of the `gun in@ action. i i
.One of he objects of the present invention 4isto provide a rear sightwhich' may be ex- 1 posed when thel riie barrel of `an over *and undergun is being used and can becon- Mcealed `whennot `required for use as, for instance, when ,shooting the shot barrel, thereby overcoming the presenceof the `sight .whenfit `is not needed and preventing both i l the barrels` andtheneckortang from being obstructed; H
In its broadest u aspect,` myinvention embodies a sight constructed and adapted to car-ry` out the foregoing object. `More par- 1 ff ticularly,f1the` invention comprises an adi 4 0 l 1 "fatz thel breech piece .or block'of the armwhen wVrequired, `or depressed and concealed withu in the'breech piece or block when not needed.

elevation of the sight from point blank range -.to a'ny desired l range. My improved adJustingmeans is adapted so that the sight will spring up to its former adjusted position at any` time 'itis` needed for use after it has been previously depressed and concealed; :Improved means are also provided for the regulation of the sight to' compensate for windage. As the inventionis susceptible of modification without departing from the essential principles thereof, the following disclosure, and 'the showing in the drawings, `is tofbe considered as illustrative, rather than rest 1'i ctive,of the scope of the invention. i

improvements may be applied to that fire-V raarste illfiipiiejd at feasting aevaaon depression of the sight Slide 37' In prac;
` 15 remain` Whereset, the sight `slide 37 is" free tombe quicklywpushed `dcvvnfwhen theshot `barrel 5 is to be used, instead of theriliefbarj i 4, and yet, vvhll thelugsdof the yoke 34 are released from theshoulders 3,9, the spring `43 immediately elevates the` sight to the range to ivhichit Vvvas previouslyfaden the sight elevated, as in Fig. l, forminstance,` thelugs 36bear against the lof .the screw 49 determines the range at vvhichthe slide is held bv the spring 43. Ad*
. justmentV of the screws 47, 48, provides for i Windage. When it `is desired to use the shot barrel 5, the upper portion 38 of the sight slide is pressed down by the linger, Whereupon the lugs 36 are snapped into locked 4engagement with the shoulders `39 by the acion `of spring on the yoke 34. The sight j hen remains concealed until it is again "needed,` whereupon a slight pressure of the YI linger applied to the push button 33 of sleeve 1j 32, releases the lugs 36 from theshoulders w39, the yoke then entering the slot 29, and theslide 37 is then snapped up by the spring 43to the previously set range.
I have illustrated a sufficient portion of theslide action of the firearm set `forth in my Patent No. 1,223,411, dated April 24, 1917, to illustratehow the present farm. The frame 1 has an under-cut or subl, stantially `dove-tailed guide 57 which receives a correspondingly shaped foot-piece 58 on the receiver 59 which carries the barrels 4V and 5. The ejector or extractor 60 is j lguided by a pinGl carried thereby andV sliding in the receiver. i `The ejector strikes against the breech plate 27 when thelfirearmis closed. At `62 there is shown the position of a dowel and socket which assists in holding the receiverrigid When closed. j
Havingthus described my invention, what i `I "claim as new `and desireto secure by Letters Patent, is:
