I E. H. LUNKEN. PULLEY DEVICE FOR POCKET WINDOWS.
APPLICATION FILED MAR-22.1911.
Patented Nova 20, 1917.

AT FDRNEYZQ EDMUND H. LUNKEN, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
PULLEY DEVICE Application filed March 22,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDMUND H. LUNKEN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pulley Devices for Pocket-Windows, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to pulleys for pocket windows of the type shown and described in my Letters Patent No. 1,201,598, dated October 17, 1916, wherein is shown generally a pulley mounting for windows having the sheave wheel held on an elongated arm which reaches from the top of thepocket to the window frame opening and has means for automatically holding it up in the pocket.
It is my object in this invention to provide a simply made, strong and effective pulley mount of the above character, and this object I accomplish by that certain construction and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more specifically pointed out and claimed.
In the drawings,
Figure 1 is a perspective view looking at the device from the pocket side.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view looking at the device from the weight box side.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a window pocket, broken away so as to show the pulley mounts, weights and cord.
Figs. 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 are perspective views of the parts of the pulley device, to wit: the arm, the hook and bracket, the pulley housing, the pin and the pulley respectively.
Fig. 9 is a perspective view of the U- shaped facing piece.
The window has an opening 1, a pocket 2 above it, side stiles 8 and a weight pocket 4. Suitable apertures for the pulley housing are cut at the upper end of the side stiles, and running down from these openings are channels or grooves 5, for the pulley mounting arm. The sash cords 6 are attached to the upper corners of the sash, pass up over the pulleys and are secured to the weight 7 in the weight box. The window as above briefly described is the new window of my patent above referred to.
The structure of the pulley device comprises in the first place an arm 8 of the cor- FOR POCKET-WINDOWS.

rect length to reach from the pulley aperture to a point adjacent the wlndow opening. It is formed of a channel bar having a countersunk screw hole 9 at the lower end which can be easily reached from the win dow. At the upper end the arm is cut out at 10, with an opening for receiving the pulley where it projects from the housing. The depth of the bar will be just sufficient to bring it flush with the sides of the stile,
when it lies in the channel 5.
Spot welded to the channel portion of the bar or arm just under the opening 10, is the hook and bracket 11. This member 11 acts as a bracket for supporting the pulley housing and extends sufficiently out from the channel to lie in the base of the stile aperture. It is hooked at 12, at a point to engage the outer surface of the side stile, and will thus hold the upper end of the arm against dislodgment from the side stile.
The pulley housing 13 comprises a single piece of metal lapping at 14: at the base of the housing where it may be spot welded. It is also turned upwardly at 15 so as not to present a cutting edge to the sash cord when installing or renewing the installation of the window.
The pulley housing is set into the channel, resting on the bracket member, and is spot welded at 16 to the sides of the channel and also to the bracket arm. The pulley 18 is set into the housing and the pin 19 thrust through the holes 20 of the housing and burred over to hold permanently in place.
As so constructed the device is compact and strong. It is very simple to make it up, since it comprises but five parts, which as indicated mutually support each other and permit of easy assembly. Although spot welding is arranged for in the assembly, it will be understood that if desired some other form of connection could be adopted.
For retaining the device in place and doing away with wear, there is preferably provided a small U-shaped plate 21 to fit over the lower edge of the slot in the stile. This is inserted durin the construction of the window and may be held by a single rivet 22, inserted through both lips of the plate and the interlying wood of the stile.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a pulley device for pocket windows, a pulley housing, a long channel bar, said a snflicicnt distance to pass through a stile 7 adapted to lie in such stile slot.
channel and secured to the Walls thereof,

4. In a device of the the'punpose described, a ing an o en g n th base in the base of the channel ing, a fold of pu ley n a d and the base of said channel cnt provide clearance for the pnlley.
2. In a pulley device for'pocket Windows, a long bar of channel form, an angle piece mounted in the channel thereof, extending] awa to ne bar, havthereof, a bracket beneath the openmetal i li lig a heu g a ha ing; sa d lwu 'i being adapted to fit between the channel Walls l d' s' at t hlffl eta 'm, nd pgt ds f ret in ng h chan el bar,- b cke m a pu ley tea ng tic thg v "EDMUND-H LU KEN,
